Off Broadway Alliance Hosts Seminar 'Is There Life After Off-Broadway?'  Image

The Off Broadway Alliance, the organization of Off Broadway producers, theaters, general managers, press agents, and marketing firms, will hold the next event in its Seminars series focused on the Off Broadway Producing Process on Saturday April 28th 2018.

The seminar, titled "Is There Life After Off-Broadway? Or Options to Extend a show's life with Touring, Licensing, and Streaming." Experts in the field of touring, licensing, and streaming will discuss the options for a show after it has ended its Off Broadway run. Our panelists will include Victoria Lang, a founder and managing member of Off Broadway Touring, a boutique agency dedicated to the promotion, booking, and management of Off Broadway-sized productions; Bruce Lazarus, executive director of Samuel French Inc., the world's oldest and largest publisher and licensor of plays and musicals; and writer-director Dewey Moss, who will discuss his experience with live-streaming a performance of his play The Crusade of Connor Stephens. Producer/Marketer/Performer Hugh Hysell will moderate.

"Is There Life After Off-Broadway?" will be held on the 3rd floor of The Theater Center (210 West 50th Street). Check-in will begin 10:30am for networking and complimentary coffee and bagels. The panel discussion will take place from 11am to 12:30pm with additional time allotted afterward for conversation with fellow attendees.

Admission for the seminar is $10 (to partially cover the costs of presenting the seminar), and pre-registration is a must. Attendees are encouraged to pre-submit questions for the panelists when they submit their reservations. Questions will be asked live at the seminar.

About The Panelists:

Victoria Lang Victoria Lang has enjoyed an award-winning producing career in theatre, television and film. She recently co-founded Off Broadway Touring, with dedicated focus on touring Off Broadway sized theatrical presentations. On the cutting edge of the best Off Broadway theatre in New York City she has produced such hits as FOUND: A New Musical, SILENCE! The Musical (Best Musical: Off Broadway Alliance Award, Top 5 Musicals: Time Magazine), SHOUT! The Mod Musical, JOHNNY GUITAR (Best Off-Broadway Musical: Outer Critics Circle Award), MATT & BEN (Top 5 Plays: Time Magazine), and David Friedman's LISTEN TO MY HEART (Drama Desk Award); and tours of THE LIGHTNING THIEF, SHOUT!, GIRLS NIGHT and DIVORCE PARTY THE MUSICAL. Bruce Lazarus As Executive Director of Samuel French, Bruce is committed to making the world safe and lucrative for playwrights, composers and lyricists. He moderates and contributes to the LinkedIn "Broadway Producers and Investors Group", hosts quarterly in person group networking events and curated dinner parties to engage the entertainment community and tell the "French Revolution" story. Prior to Samuel French, Bruce practiced law, served as the Director of Business Affairs for Disney Theatrical Productions, managed film stars, and produced Broadway and off-Broadway plays. Bruce spends his free time singing along with the car radio, frustrating his wife and kids, and meditating while floating in his kayak.

Dewey Moss (DMoss Productions LLC) Dewey Moss' producing career began with his debut feature film A NORMAL LIFE (writer/director), which won international acclaim and is currently in distribution. DEATH OF THE PERSIAN PRINCE, his play about Iranian gay men forced into sex changes to avoid execution, played several NYC festivals (winner: Best Play, SAIPAF), with a subsequent run at the Duo Theater. THE CRUSADE OF CONNOR STEPHENS premiered at the 2016 MITF (7 awards including Best Play), then had a commercial run at the Jerry Orbach Theater and was among the first Off-Broadway plays to be livestreamed. Optioned by Diceman House Films with Dewey as Executive Producer, the film adaptation of the play is scheduled for production in 2018 with a distribution deal signed. Currently Dewey is lead producing a new musical scheduled to premiere this year called Tennessee Whiskey the Musical, based on the life of Country Music Hall-of- Famer and BMI Icon Dean Dillon. As a Creative Director for several major advertising firms, Dewey has written/produced/directed hundreds of commercials, industrials, and webisodes, many of which have been Telly Award- winning. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Dewey holds a Masters in vocal performance and is a graduate of CTI.

Hugh Hysell (Moderator) is a Tony Award ® winning Broadway producer, award winning marketer and performer. His Broadway producing projects include this spring's revival of Six Degrees of Separation, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Tony Award® and Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best Play) and Peter and the Starcatcher(winner of 5 Tonys®). Hugh runs Hysell Marketing and has has served as marketing director of over 200 Broadway and Off Broadway shows, numerous theatrical discount websites, streaming series and tourist attractions. Current/past clients include Goldstar, Show-Score, BroadwayBox, Randy Writes a Novel, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Monty Python's Spamalot, Miss Saigon, Gazillion Bubble Show, Altar Boyz, Cirkopolis, My Big Gay Italian Wedding, Funeral and Midlife Crisis and others.
