The Oberon Theatre Ensemble will present their annual winter show Winter Rep 08. This year the company presents Shakespeare's classic tragedy Macbeth in rep with Michael Weller's Ghost on Fire. Performances begin on February 14th at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street).
The first show,
Macbeth, begins on February 14th. The director will be Philip Atlakson, a screenwriter whose theater credits include directing his own plays in Seattle and New York, including the well-received
Leapfrog Through Time And Space. The cast for
Macbeth will be Claire Anderson, Gabe Bettio, Mac Brydon, Devon Butler, Brian D. Coats, Sarah Ecton-Lutrell, John Gardner, Allison Goldberg, James Holloway, William Laney, Jonathan Pereira, David McLellan, Cliff Jewell, Grace Pettijohn, Eden Teagle, Laura Siner, and Paula Wilson.
Ghost on Fire by
Michael Weller begins February 21st. According to press notes: "It tells the story of a trio of friends who worked together in their student days making films they hoped would change the world; now, fifteen years later, they are nostalgic for their lost idealism and unhappy with the choices they have made in the "real world." As the events of the play unfold, they are each, in their different ways, forced to confront their compromise, their failed aspirations, and their mortality, and challenged to reclaim what is best in themselves."
The director for
Ghost on Fire will be Eric Parness, whose previous work for Oberon includes
Finding Louise, The Winter's Tale, and Of
Mice and Men. Other New York directing credits include Jean Cocteau Rep, Boomerang Theatre Company and Ensemble Studio Theatre. The cast will be Brianne Berkson, Brian D. Coats, Jane Courtney, Jarel Davidow, Craig Fitzpatrick, Brad Fryman, Don Harvey, Angus Hepburn, and Linda Larkin.
Each season Oberon Theatre Ensemble combines classic, contemporary, and new works in a format that allows each to highlight and enhance the other. The company juxtaposes new against old in a single evening or in a repertory schedule, with an ensemble of actors and directors nimbly jumping from one world to another to draw the audience fully into the experience. Since they began in 1998, the company previously paired Shakespeare, Chekhov and Ibsen with plays by Ryan J-W Smith,
Christopher Durang and Cindy Lou Johnson, among others.
