OWNED, ABSOLUTION & More Set for MCC Theater's Fall 2013 Playlab Readings

MCC Theater has announced the line-up for their upcoming PlayLabs reading series, featuring new plays by members of the company's Playwrights' Coalition. Traditionally held in the Spring, MCC'sPlayLab will now shift to the autumn months, launching this year on four consecutive Mondays throughout September (beginning September 9th) at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street). All readings are at 7pm. New York actors currently scheduled to appear in the readings include: Tony Award nomineeJeremy Shamos, Patch Darragh, Brett Donaldson, Maxwell Hamilton, Rachel Lee, Christopher McLinden, Deirdre O'Connell, and Shannon Sullivan. MCC's PlayLabs provides audiences with: a rare first look at brand new plays by a group of notable emerging playwrights; the opportunity to participate in post-show conversations that aid in the development of the work; and a meet-n-greet wine reception with actors and the creative team following all activities. Participating playwrights are selected from MCC's Playwrights' Coalition, now in its thirteenth year of offering a diverse group of writers the resources and support necessary to help conceive, develop and ultimate present their work to a New York audience, with an emphasis on roundtable readings and intensive script analysis. PlayLabs works often find later life through full-scale productions at MCC and other renowned theaters regionally across the U.S., in New York, and internationally. Alums of the program include early works by Pulitzer Prize finalist Adam Rapp and Tony Award nominee Stephen Adly Guirgus, among many others.

MCC Theater-renowned for its commitment to nurturing new works-recently announced its 2013-14 Main Stage Season which includes: the Broadway premiere of the Mary-Louise Parker-starrer The Snow Geese by MCC alum Sharr White, which is a co-production with Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) set for October 1 through December 15, 2013 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre; the New York Premiere of John Pollono's celebrated Small Engine Repair, the comic thriller that premiered to rave reviews and sold-out audiences at L.A.'s Rogue Machine Theatre, which will begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on October 30, 2013 with an official opening on November 19, 2013; the Off-Broadway premiere of Robert Askins' Hand to God, directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel and starringSteven Boyer (Modern Terrorism, The Wolf of Wall Street), at Lucille Lortel Theatre, beginning on February 20, 2014 with an official opening on March 11, 2014;and the North American premiere of Penelope Skinner's The Village Bike, directed by Sam Gold (Circle Mirror Transformation), starring Academy Award nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal (Crazy Heart, The Dark Knight) at the Lucille Lortel Theatre beginning May 21, 2014 with an official opening on June 9, 2014.
