Creative Arts Lab announced the launch of the new musical, "Return to Spoon River," which opens on April 20 and runs through May 6 at The Lion Theater at Theatre Row in New York City.
Created by Martin Tackel, who adapted the show from the classic American poems by Edgar Lee Masters first published in 1915, Return to Spoon River weaves a tapestry of song, character and American color as it follows two contemporary strangers, Julia and Ham, returning to their hometown of Spoon River to say goodbye to their pasts.
With a score that ranges from soulful love songs to newly arranged American classics and raucous celebrations of small-town life, Return to Spoon River exalts in the spirit of America's heartland, bringing to life the poetic characters of Edgar Lee Masters as it tells the moving, hope-filled story of a man and a woman finding themselves amid the memories they left behind long ago.
Directed by Gwen Arment (BABY), with musical direction and arrangements by Brian Hurley (Accentuate The Positive), Return to Spoon River features an acclaimed cast that includes Stephen Belida (BABY), Brittney Lee Hamilton (The Knick, Boardwalk Empire), Peter Husovsky (Traveling Papers), Erik Schark (Avenue Q), Alison Whitehurst (Fortress Of Solitude), Tepper Saffren (Angels in America), Brittany Proia (You Can't Take It With You), Andrew O'Shanick (Pitch Perfect, The Office), Paulette Oliva (Sister Act), Jessica Kuhne (Law & Order), and Kendra Jo Brook (This Land Is Your Land).
