Nancy Harrow as 'The Cat Who Went to Heaven' Begins 11/17

Culture Project announces the return of their children and family series with The Cat Who Went to Heaven, a puppet show directed by Will Pomerantz, with music and lyrics by Nancy Harrow (creator of Maya the Bee) and based on the 1931 Newbery Award-winning book by Elizabeth Coatsworth.  Performances begin at Culture Project (55 Mercer Street) on Saturday, November 17 at 12PM.

"The Cat Who Went to Heaven is a jazz-inflected family tale about a struggling Japanese artist, his housekeeper, a Buddhist priest from the local temple and an inspirational cat.  When the cat unexpectedly appears in the starving artist's studio, his fortune begins to change.  While this production marks the show's stage debut, a CD version of The Cat Who Went to Heaven was released in 2006 to rave reviews," explain press notes.

The full cast includes Harrow (as the title cat), Grady Tate, Daryl Sherman and Anton Krukowski and puppeteers Jane Catherine Shaw, Amanda Maddock, Melissa Creighton, Ayako Dean, Lake Simons, Timothy Conor McKee and Sarah Provost.

The full design team includes Jane Catherine Shaw (puppet design and construction, puppetry direction), Amanda Maddock (costume design) and Joseph Silovsky (set design).
