New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) presents the first production of their 2014/15 season, SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE, based on Ingmar Bergman's film of the same name. English version by Emily Mann and conceived and directed by Ivo van Hove, SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE officially opens tonight, September 22, 2014 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003) for a limited engagement through Sunday, October 26, 2014.
The cast features Tina Benko (Tales From Red Vienna, The Little Foxes), Susannah Flood (Love and Information; Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play), Erin Gann (Apple Cove, The Aliens), Arliss Howard (Joe Turner's Come and Gone, How I Learned To Drive, "Medium"), Alex Hurt (The Caucasian Chalk Circle), Mia Katigbak (Awake and Sing!, Fast Company), Emma Ramos (A Crucible), Dallas Roberts (Nocturne, A Number, "The Walking Dead"), Roslyn Ruff (All The Way, Romeo and Juliet, Things of Dry Hours, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter) and Carmen Zilles (Adoration of the Old Woman, Chimichangas and Zoloft).
In this highly theatrical production of Ingmar Bergman's popular 1974 film Scenes from a Marriage, an ensemble of virtuosic actors invites audiences into an intimate space to experience collectively the human dynamics of a relationship through all the stages of a life - from youth, to middle age to maturity. Van Hove's interpretation illuminates the universal themes of love, identity and vulnerability that are at the heart of Bergman's timeless film.
SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE is Ivo van Hove's seventh collaboration with New York Theatre Workshop. Van Hove has received critical acclaim for his fresh interpretations of familiar dramatic works, including, most recently, Roman Tragedies (BAM) as well as The Little Foxes, A Streetcar Named Desire and Hedda Gabler at NYTW.
The production will feature production design by Jan Versweyveld and dramaturgy by Bart van den Eynde.
