NORDIC STAGE Festival to Spotlight New Scandinavian Theater  ImageThe New York-based Scandinavian American Theater Company (SATC) is proud to present Nordic Stage: A Festival of New Scandinavian Theater in collaboration with The Bergman Studio/ The Royal Dramatic Theatre of Sweden.

The festival will feature works from seven Scandinavian playwrights, including playwrights from The Bergman Studio in Stockholm, as well as writers from the larger Scandinavian region. The plays presented are read in English, and the readings are free to the public. Nordic Stage's goal is to highlight the diversity of work being produced in Scandinavia today, featuring plays with a variety of genres, styles and subject matter.

Directors and casting will be announced shortly.

CONFIRMED ARTISTS:

JACOB HIRDWALL - Sleepwalks In The Nether: Jacob Hirdwall is a Swedish director, dramaturg and playwright, who works within film, radio and theatre. Since 2001 he has been working at the Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramaten) in Stockholm. His plays have been staged in Sweden and abroad, for example in Oslo, Aarhus, Peking, Shanghai, New York and Reykjavik. Jacob Hirdwall is the initiator and leader of The Bergman Studio at Dramaten in Stockholm - a forum for development of texts supported by the Ingmar Bergman Foundation and The Ingmar Bergman International Theatre Festival.

Lisa Langseth - Beloved: Lisa Langseth is a director, playwright and scriptwriter from Sweden and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Dramatic Institute in Stockholm (1999-2002). In 2004, her play The Beloved opened at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, starring Noomi Rapace. The Beloved is also the basis of Lisa Langseth's movie debut from 2010, the successful "Till Det Som Är Vackert"/"Pure". Lisa Langseth recently came out with her movie Euphoria?(2018), starring Alicia?Wikander?and Charlotte?Rampling.??

DENNIS MAGNUSSON - The Dylan Society: Dennis Magnusson is a playwright and scriptwriter from Sweden, currently living in Stockholm. He has worked for?acclaimed?TV shows such as?Jordskott?and?30 Degrees In February. He was also a dramaturg for the international cinema success?Let?The Right?One?In. Magnusson's most controversial piece?7: 3 Revisited?is about?world famous playwright Lars?Norén's?work?at a prison,?and the?tragic?events that followed around?a shooting.?

DIMEN ABDULLA - On All Four. Dimen Abdulla is a Swedish playwright of Kurdish origin. She is currently adapting Bergmans "Persona" för the Bergman festival and 100th anniversary at the The Royal Dramatic Theatre. Since her studies at The Royal Art Academy (2009-2012) and Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts (2012-2015), she has written several plays including Nomnomnom, Revolution, The Giraffe, X and Self-portrait.

THE BERGMAN STUDIO is part of the prestigious Dramaten, the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, led by playwright and dramaturg Jakob Hirdwall and esteemed Swedish actress and director Lena Endre, under the advisement of Eva Bergman. The Bergman Theatre seeks to expand on the artistic values of famed director and writer Ingmar Bergman.?

SCANDINAVIAN AMERICAN THEATER COMPANY (SATC) is a non-profit theater company founded in 2009 to provide a Scandinavian perspective through the new generation of Scandinavian playwrights and theater artists. NORDIC STAGE: A Festival of New Scandinavian Theater runs April 6 - 8 at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row, located at 410 West 42nd Street at 9th Avenue in Manhattan. This is a free event. Suggested donation is $20.
