NEWSical Celebrates 3000 Performances

On Jan 26th, 2019 NEWSical The Musical, the 10th longest running Off-Broadway show and 3rd longest running musical revue in NY history, will be celebrating its 3000th performance at Theatre Row. To celebrate the milestone the show will be receiving a proclamation from Speaker of the City Council, Corey Johnson, as well as a proclamation from the New York State Assembly.

 

In addition to this honor, NEWSical The Musical is proud to announce that licensing rights for amateur and professional productions are now available through Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW). With its ever-changing format, the creators of the show have devised a template to create a unique and fun theatrical experience that features staples of the New York production as well as the chance for regional companies to add their own local spin!

 

Now in its 8th smash year, NEWSical is New York's ever-evolving musical mockery of all the news that's fit to spoof. From politics to pop culture - nothing and no one in the news is safe! In 3000 performances the show has lampooned everything from the lowest depths of reality TV to the highest office in the land - and currently, NEWSical finds that it's sometimes hard to tell the difference!

 

NEWSical was the first ever recipient of the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Musical (2011) and the show has been nominated for multiple Drama Desk Awards over its historic run. On March 23rd, 2017 Mayor De Blasio declared it "NEWSical The Musical Day" in New York City!

 

In 2012 NEWSical made national headlines when it welcomed celebrity blogger Perez Hilton to the company for four sold out weeks! Over the past 3000 performances NEWSical has had the privilege to feature some fun celebrity guest stars including Queer Eye's Carson Kressley, Broadway's original 'Annie' Andrea McArdle, Saturday Night Live's Cheri Oteri, Emmy Award winner Jackée, Real Houewives Kandi Burruss, and La Toya Jackson! NEWSical was featured on Jackson's reality TV show "Life with La Toya" on the OWN Network in 2014.

 

The current company features Taylor Crousore (Forbidden Broadway), Susan Mosher (Hairspray), Christine Pedi (Forbidden Broadway, Chicago, Sirius XM Radio Host), and Michael West (When Pigs Fly). Both Pedi and West have been with the production since opening night.

 

Other performers that have appeared in NEWSical's core company over the years have included Rory O'Malley, Kristen Mengelkoch, Leslie Kritzer, Christina Bianco, Tommy Walker, Scott Foster, Carly Sakolove, Amy Griffin, John West, Emily McNamara, Ryan Knowles, David Foley, Wade Dooley, Dylan Thompson, Meg Lanzarone, Erin Maguire, Amy Hillner Larsen, Sally Schwab, and Sheri Sanders.

 

NEWSical is proudly produced by Tom D'Angora and was created by and written by Rick Crom (Urinetown) with direction by Mark Waldrop (When Pigs Fly, Bea Arthur on Broadway - Just Between Friends, Papermill Playhouse's Gypsy) and music direction by Ed Goldschneider, and is currently stage managed by Krystal Roccaro.

NEWSical The Musical plays at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). Show times are Monday 8:15pm, Saturday 3pm & 8:15pm, Sunday 7:30pm.
