'My First Time' Seeking Songs by Unsigned Bands

Ken Davenport, producer of the Off-Broadway hits Altar Boyz and The Awesome 80s Prom, announced today the search for songs from unsigned bands to be featured in the off-Broadway play My First Time.

My First Time "is a new play in the style of The Vagina Monologues that features submissions about first sexual experiences from real people all over the world.  Accompanying these stories will be songs about these same 'first' feelings of love and sex and joy and heartbreak from real musicians all over the world," state press notes.

Davenport says, "There are thousands upon thousands of incredible unsigned bands all over the world like Red Wanting Blue, Colourslide, and Hasting.  And these bands haven't been given the opportunities to be heard, just like there were thousands upon thousands of stories on the website on which My First Time is based. It's time we listen to both."

The songs will be chosen by Davenport based on what best suits the play.  Artists are encouraged to submit songs that they may have already written and recorded as well as new compositions that deal with the themes in My First Time. In addition to being used in My First Time, Davenport is in discussions with Sh-K-Boom Records to release a compilation CD of these "First Time" songs.

"I think that unsigned bands are the hardest working bunch of dreamers in the world, and I'm thrilled to be in a position to offer them this opportunity.  They deserve it.  And here's hoping that inclusion in this brand new theatrical production gets them that guest spot on 'Saturday Night Live,'" said Davenport.
