Friends of The Abingdon Theatre present "IT'S THE TALK OF THE TOWN" a Musical Tribute to Jerry Livingston on Wednesday, March 25th at 7:30pm at The Triad Theatre, 158 West 72nd Street (between Broadway & Columbus). This original musical revue conceived and directed by David Flora with musical director Julie Bearden features performers Kyle Gonyea, Jennifer Houston, Holli Leggett, Karen Paulemon and Robert Vest.
Jerry Livingston was one of the leading songwriters of American popular music from the Tin Pan Alley and big band years until the coming of rock ‘n' roll in the 1960s. He composed the music for such standards as "It's the Talk of the Town," "Mairzy Doats," "Casper the Friendly Ghost" and "The Twelfth of Never," along with the score for
Walt Disney's Cinderella. Mr. Livingston was nominated three times for a Best Song Oscar and was elected to the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in 1980. This commemorates what would be his 100th Birthday. You may not know the man, but you know his music.
Since 1993, not-for-profit Abingdon Theatre Company has developed and produced new plays by American playwrights exclusively. Under the artistic direction of
Jan Buttram, the company provides a safe home in which playwrights collaborate with other theatre artists and receive audience feedback through the utilization of a four-step development process: First Readings, Staged Readings, and Workout Labs, which culminate in Studio Productions and Mainstage Productions.
