The mother of Dylan Klebold, one of the two Columbine killers, speaks out for the first time in next month's issue of "O," the Oprah Magazine. She says she had no idea her son was suicidal until she read his journals after the Columbine massacre occurred, and is still trying to make sense of the tragedy.
This has sparked a national conversation about what really happened and what the parents knew on April 20, 1999. These same journals Ms. Klebold refers to are the basis of "The Columbine Project", a new "docu-drama" written and directed by Paul Anthony Storiale, is currently playing Off-Broadway at the Actor's Temple Theater Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Evenings at 8:00pm, and Sunday Evenings at 7:00pm.
"The Columbine Project" examines the possible causes and effects of the infamous Columbine High-School massacre, including what went through the minds of the perpetrators, previous to the attack. The play also focuses on social and political issues within the walls of Columbine, facing teens nationwide.
Pulled straight from journals, diaries and information shared personally with the writer by survivors of the incident, this true story provides insight into who these children were and who may have also had a hand in cultivating the rampage that resulted in bloodshed and destruction.
"The Columbine Project" premiered in North Hollywood in April of this year where it garnered "Best Ensemble" and "Best World Premiere Play" from StageSceneLA.com. After its initial sellout run, the production was extended twice and received unanimous favorable reviews. With the show currently running in New York and plans to open in Chicago and London in 2010, the producers hope to live up to the poignant words on the victim's memorial: "Never Forgotten."
