Molière In The Park's THE MISANTHROPE Begins Tonight

Molière in the Park's fully staged production of two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Richard Wilbur's translation of Molière's THE MISANTHROPE, directed by Molière in the Park's Founding Artistic Director Lucie Tiberghien, begins previews tonight for a Sunday, May 15 7:30pm opening.

The cast includes Tony and Obie Award winner Gabriel Ebert (Broadway's Pass Over & Matilda The Musical, Apple TV+'s "Dickinson") as Alceste, Maechi Aharanwa (Mothers with Playwrights Realm, If Pretty Hurts... at Playwrights Horizons) as Célimène, Janie Brookshire (The Philanthropist on Broadway, The Mound Builders at Signature Theatre), Chris Henry Coffey (Bronx Bombers on Broadway, Public Servant on Theatre Row), Danaya Esperanza (The Merchant of Venice with TFANA & STC, "The Blacklist"), Margaret Ivey (Fox's "Prodigal Son," Moliere Turns 400 at FIAF), Nate Miller (Junk at LCT, India Pale Ale at MTC), Aline Salloum (The Meltdown at Rattlestick, Only Remains Remain at MoMA PS1) and Kate Siahaan-Rigg (Birth of a nASIAN, NBC's "New Amsterdam").

THE MISANTHROPE is presented in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance and LeFrak Center at Lakeside.

Produced by MIP Co-Founding Executive Producer Garth Belcon. The production team includes Teresa Williams (Set Design), Stoli Stolnack (Lighting Design), Chad Raines (Sound Design/Composition), Dina El-Aziz (Costume Design), Madison Lane (Production Stage Manager) and T Pope Jackson (Production Manager).

Alceste is full of rightful disdain for the hypocrisy and social norms of his contemporaries. Ironically, he is madly in love with the queen of social butterflies, Célimène, a radiant seductress who deftly navigates the incessant chatter of her friend network in her endless quest for independence. When Alceste suddenly decides that Célimène must choose between him and her frivolous world, well, in true Moliere comedic style, the clash and its aftermaths are like nothing he could have predicted.

THE MISANTHROPE runs May 13 - 25, 2022 in a limited engagement at Prospect Park's LeFrak Center in Brooklyn. Enter at 171 East Drive between Ocean Avenue and Lincoln Road. Previews begin May 13 for a May 15 opening.

Performances are free to the public. Dates are Friday May 13 at 7:30pm, Saturday May 14 at 7:30pm, Sunday May 15 at 2pm and 7:30pm (opening night), Tuesday May 17 at 7:30pm, Wednesday May 18 at 7:30pm, Thursday May 19 at 7:30pm, Friday May 20 at 11am, Saturday May 21 at 7:30pm, Sunday May 22 at 7:30pm, Tuesday May 24 at 11am and 7:30pm, and Wednesday May 25 at 2pm. Molière in the Park will host a benefit evening on May 15 with festive drinks and food at 6pm and a 7:30pm performance. A donation of $150 per ticket (which includes the pre show event and the show) will support Molière in the Park's mission of offering free theater in Prospect Park, annually. MIP is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
