Kenyon Phillips, known for his inventive blend of orchestral rock, surrealist theater and interactive cabaret, resurrects his autobiographical rock opera The Life and Death of Kenyon Phillips this August at Webster Hall. To kick off pride week, the show announces its most recent cast member to re-join the show, 2015 LGBT Expo Lifetime Achievement Award winner Michael Musto.
Hilariously judgmental and delivering an antagonistic commentary throughout, Musto will reprise the role of a lifetime by playing himself - a fantastically fashionable and outspoken journalist with New York celebrity status. Most recently seen on Logo TV's new movie show, "Cocktail and Classics," Musto will be appearing in The Life and Death of Kenyon Phillips for the fourth time - having performed in each of its prior incarnations at Joe's Pub and The Box.
With a weekly column, Musto! The Musical, on Out.com, and regular contributions to the New York Times Styles section, Musto's reporting skills are put to good use in the show, as he ushers Phillips from one wildly inappropriate scene to the next. "As an early fan of Kenyon Phillips's rock theatrics, I'm honored to be the sort of demented ringleader of his circus-like autobiographical swirl," says Musto. "This show is sick in the best way possible. It will kick audience members into the proverbial mud, and then elevate them higher than our fabulous tightrope walker. All the while, no one is safe because I might just pick on innocent people in the crowd in between picking on Kenyon. And they will thank me for it!"
Phillips couldn't be more pleased about Musto's return to the show. "Michael is a very special kind of genius, and a born performer. People don't necessarily know that about him. It's an honor and a pleasure to have him ridicule me throughout my show. He's the glam embodiment of my inner critic."
Directed by Tony Award winner Cady Huffman and following a series of sold-out performances at Joe's Pub and The Box over the last few months, this one-night-only performance will occur Wednesday, August 19 at 8:00pm in the grand ballroom of one of North America's most historic entertainment venues.
