Max Baker's HAL & BEE Receives NYC Premiere At 59E59 Theaters

59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) welcomes the NYC premiere of HAL & BEE, written by Max Baker and directed by Sarah Norris. Produced by Stable Cable Lab Co. and New Light Theater Project, HAL & BEE begins performances on Saturday, March 10 for a limited engagement through Saturday, March 31. Press Opening is Wednesday, March 14 at 7:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Friday at 7:30 PM; Saturday at 7:30 PM; and Sunday at 2:30 PM. There are added matinee performances on Saturday, March 10 and Saturday, March 31 at 2:30 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison). This aging hippie couple attempts to hold on to their bohemian roots while dealing with the impending sale of their Upper West Side apartment building as well as the deadly familiarity of their own relationship. HAL & BEE is a play about love, addiction, and (possibly) growing old together.

Veteran Broadway actors Candy Buckley (Broadway's Cabaret, After the Fall) and Jeff Hayenga (Broadway's Junk, Harvey) star with Lisa Jill Anderson (Max Baker's The Conspiracists) and Ian Poake (Max Baker's The Conspiracists).

Max Baker (playwright) grew up on a dead-end cobble-stoned street in Camden, North London, not far from Karl Marx's grave. He received an MA in playwriting from Washington State University and has worked professionally as an actor, playwright and director for over 20 years. In 2010 he wrote and directed The Eelwax Jesus 3-D Pop Music Show (produced at HERE in NYC and The Contemporary American Theatre Festival in WVA). In 2015 his short film Best Wishes From Millwood won the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival. His acting credits include Broadway, Off Broadway, and The Public, as well as London's West End and Fringe. He has appeared in numerous films and all kinds of TV. Hal & Bee marks Max's fourth collaboration with Stable Cable Lab Co., previously devising, writing and directing The Conspiracists, Live From the Surface of the Moon and Because Me, all produced in New York City.

Sarah Norris (director) is the Founding Artistic Director of New Light Theater Project. In New York, she has worked with Playwrights Horizons, Theatre Communications Group (TCG), LAByrinth Theater Company, Disney Theatrical Productions, BAMA Theatre Company, The Flea Theater, and The Gallery Players to name a few. She is the Artistic Director of Access Theater and an Associate Producer for the Broadway producing company Bisno Productions. She is a proud member of AEA and SDC.
