My Pal Bette, a one act play that was a smash hit at the 2007 Orlando International Fringe Festival, is making its NY premiere this summer at The Producer's Club. Written by John Ryan, My Pal Bette stars Tammy Kopko as Bette Davis, the razor-mouthed, high-ball drinking, chain-smoking screen siren and unlikely mentor to pre-pubescent Tommy Klein.
Press notes state that "Tommy is an obsessive-compulsive nerd with an unhealthy attachment to his kvelling, Yente-from-hell mother until God and his army of well-chiseled angels grants him a "guardian diva" - Miss Davis in all her glory. Hilarity and pathos ensue as Bette teaches her awkward protégé about bitch-slapping your inner-demons in this warped buddy comedy about DIVAS, mothers, and self-empowerment."
The cast includes playwright John Ryan as Tommy, Tammy Kopko as Bette Davis, Michael Ell as 9 year old Tommy, Reece Scelfo as Angel/God, Sivan Hadari as Carol Klein/Cher, James Brent Isaacs as God/Devils, PJ Brennan as Thomas Klein, Sr./Derek, and Cindy Pearlman as Susie/Ms. Darwin. Kenny Howard will direct.
"It's a unlikely coming of age story that is helmed by Bette Davis, which is the last person you would think of coming to the aid of a nine year old boy, but she does so wonderfully...in spite of herself." says Howard.
