MTC Extends VIETGONE and SELL/BUY/DATE Off-Broadway

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) have announced that both of Manhattan Theatre Club's critically acclaimed fall productions playing at New York City Center (131 West 55th Street): Vietgone at Stage I and Sell/Buy/Date at The Studio at Stage II - Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play Series at New York City Center - Stage II are extending due to overwhelming demand.

Vietgone will extend through Sunday, December 4 and Sell/Buy/Date will extend through Saturday, December 3 with tickets for the extensions going on sale now.

A modern twist on the All-American love story, Qui Nguyen's (She Kills Monsters) new play Vietgone pulses with contemporary energy. It's the classic story of boy meets girl - except this boy and girl are refugees from the Vietnam War newly settled in a relocation camp inside Middle America. Borrowing elements from the world of up-to-the-minute popular culture to recreate the playwright's own parents' meeting, Vietgone ranges from hilarity to heart-wrenching drama. Nguyen and director May Adrales (Luce at LCT3) skip through time and around the globe to present a fresh theatrical take on a moving account of one real family's history.

The cast of Vietgone features Jon Hoche (national tour of War Horse, The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G), Jennifer Ikeda (Top Girls at MTC, Seascape), Raymond Lee (Farah Goes Bang, founding member of Four Clowns clown troupe), Samantha Quan (4 Wedding Planners, "NCIS"), and Paco Tolson (Peter and the Starcatcher at South Coast Rep, Ensemble Studio Theatre member).

Vietgone is produced in association with South Coast Repertory. Vietgone was originally commissioned and developed by South Coast Repertory as part of SCR CrossRoads, with funding from the Time Warner Foundation. It is a recipient of the Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award.

The creative team for Vietgone features Tim Mackabee (scenic design), Anthony Tran (costume design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), Shane Rettig (original music and sound design), and Jared Mezzocchi (projection design).

Tony Award-winning playwright and performer Sarah Jones (Bridge & Tunnel) returns to the New York stage as a dazzling medley of characters in Sell/Buy/Date, an exuberant new show, directed by Drama Desk Award winner Carolyn Cantor (Fly By Night), inspired by the real-life experiences of people affected by the sex industry. Brimming with Jones' masterful, multicultural characterizations, Sell/Buy/Datepresents an honest, moving and even humorous look at a complex and fascinating subject, all while preserving the full humanity of voices seldom heard in the theater.

The creative team for Sell/Buy/Date includes Dane Laffrey (scenic and costume design), Eric Southern (lighting design), Bray Poor (sound design), and Antonia Grilikhes-Lasky (dramaturg).

The Studio at Stage II is Manhattan Theatre Club's initiative at New York City Center - Stage II (131 West 55th Street). The initiative launched in 2012 with the sold out, critically acclaimed world premiere ofMurder Ballad, the rock musical by Julia Jordan and Juliana Nash and has continued with the premieres of Choir Boy by Tarell Alvin McCraney, Taking Care of Baby by Dennis Kelly, The Lion by Benjamin Scheuer, By The Water by Sharyn Rothstein, Heisenberg by Simon Stephens (prior to its current Broadway transfer production), Important Hats of the Twentieth Century by Nick Jones, and The Ruins of Civilization by Penelope Skinner. In Spring 2017, Stage II will feature the world premiere of Fulfillment Center by Abe Koogler, directed by Daniel Aukin, featuring Deirdre O'Connell.

The Studio at Stage II has been partially underwritten with a major grant from The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust.
