Manhattan Repertory Theatre offers 30 playwrights the chance to win $1000. Are you up for it?

Seeking fully produced one act plays (cast, directed and ready to perform), 7 minutes to 20 minutes in length for MRT's SPRING ONE ACT PLAY COMPETITION 2016, March 9 - April 1, 2016 at Manhattan Rep, 303 W.42nd St.

$1000 PRIZE for BEST ONE ACT PLAY PRODUCTION!!!
EACH PLAY WILL BE GIVEN A MINIMUM OF 4 PERFORMANCES,
(And an additional 4 performances if the play goes on to the FINALS - March 31 and April 1, 2016)

To submit your one act play production please email:
The complete play, a synopsis of the play, the character breakdown, the running time of the play, the set and lighting requirements, the play?s production history (if it has been produced before and where), your mailing address,and a creative team leader contact email address to:
manhattanrep@yahoo.com by February 19, 2016 at Midnight.

Please put "Spring One Act Competition" in the subject heading.
We will contact you within a week as to your acceptance.
Plays that we love will be accepted on a First-Come First-Served basis.
The earlier you submit the better chances you have of being accepted for we may end submissions before February 19, 2016, if we fill up all available performance slots

There is no submission fee. NON-EQUITY ONLY.

Each play will be given a MINIMUM of FOUR performances, with 4 more performances if the play moves on to the finals. We will supply a technician to run the sound and lights.
Once accepted, there will be a $155.00 participation fee.
There will be NO additional security fees or Manhattan Repertory Theatre based production fees.

PLAYWRITING 101

(Ages 18-100)

So you have a dream of writing a play but you just can't seem to get it together? You might have writer's block, or you might be overly judgmental of your writing so you keep stopping, or maybe you just can't find the right idea for your play? So you feel a bit stuck, for your play just isn't happening...

This 6 session course Playwriting course over 2 months just might be your solution!

By the end of this course you will have written a 30 - 45 minute 1 act play and you will have a foundation and a technique to easily write more!

(2 week break to write)
April 9, April 16
(1 week break to finish your rehearsal draft)

PLAYWRITING AND PERFORMANCE CLASS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

(Ages 9 to 13)

With Jennifer Pierro - Director of Productions
and Ken Wolf - Artistic Director,
Manhattan Repertory Theatre

Class dates and time:
Saturdays - 9:30 am to 11:30 am
April 9, April 16, April 30, May 7, May 14
With performances at Manhattan Repertory Theatre on 42nd St on:
Saturday May 21 at 2 pm
Sunday May 22 at 2 pm followed by Cast Party for students and parents

In this class, geared towards young playwrights and performers ages 9 - 13, each student will:
~ Write a 10 minute play.
~ Perform in at least one 10 minute play when the plays are presented at Manhattan Repertory Theatre on Saturday May 21 at 2 pm and on Sunday May 22 at 2 pm.
~Learn the basics of writing a 10 minute play:
How to write a compelling, fun, story.

How to write interesting characters that will delight the audience.
And they will learn how to bring a 10 minute play to production,
along with basic acting skills and protocols.
