Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director), Women's Project (Julie Crosby, Producing Artistic Director) and La Jolla Playhouse (Christopher Ashley, Artistic Director; Michael S. Rosenberg, Managing Director) has announced a one-week extension of its critically-acclaimed, sold out New York premiere production of MILK LIKE SUGAR, a new play by Kirsten Greenidge, directed by Rebecca Taichman. Originally set to play a limited engagement through Sunday, November 20, the production extended through Sunday, November 27 at Playwrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The additional week represents the only extension possible.

The production began previews Tuesday, October 13 and had its official opening on Tuesday, November 1.

Variety's Bob Verini called it "Remarkable! One of the works of art for which 2011 will be remembered." Charles Isherwood of The New York Times raved, "The great Tonya Pinkins gives a sensational, frame-busting performance, biting into the humor with ferocious intensity," also praising the "Terrific cast. With their tart backchat and slangy humor, the high school girls played with beaming verve by Cherise Booth, Angela Lewis and Nikiya Mathis are a delight to watch." Jeremy Gerard of Bloomberg News declared, "Kirsten Greenidge delivers a high-voltage New York premiere." And Joe Dziemianowicz of Daily News gave it FOUR STARS, cheering the "Fine-tuned production and topflight cast."

The acclaimed Ensemble features the entire original World Premiere cast, direct from their run at La Jolla Playhouse: Cherise Boothe, 2-time Audelco Award nominee Angela Lewis, Nikiya Mathis, LeRoy McClain, J. Mallory-McCree, Adrienne C. Moore and Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins.
