The Lucille Lortel Theatre will present a series of public programs as part of The Alcove at the Lortel, the Lortel's new play development program for early and mid-career playwrights. Curated by Caridad Svich, Artistic Director of New Play Development, these free events include two digital readings and twelve online conversations with playwrights.

Additionally, submissions for the second round of the 121 Project will open on October 1, 2024. Under the stewardship of Michael Heitzman, Artistic Director of New Musical Development, this signature program of the Music Theatre Lab at the Lortel, provides composers with up to $10,000 of tailored support for the specific needs of a project. Submissions will be closed once 121 applications have been received or on October 15, 2024, whichever comes first. Submission guidelines can be found at www.lortel.org/lucille-lortel-music-theatre-lab-121.

Streaming on demand from October 1-15, 2024, The Revolutionary's Son by Los Angeles-based playwright Terence Anthony centers on legendary Black social activist Lucy E. Parsons, founding member of the Industrial Workers of the World, and the troubled relationship with her son Albert Richard Parsons Jr. Directed by Delicia Turner, the cast includes Cheri Lynne VandenHeuvel, Eric Pargac, Elliot Sagay, and Pete Pasco. Registration for this free event is required and can be made at https://lortel.org/the-revolutionarys-son/.

Jennifer Van Dyck, Michael Emerson, Christopher Innvar, and Wayne Firestone star in a read of FEAST! by Chicago-based playwright Calamity West. Directed by Elly Green, FEAST! is a biting new satire that explores the fine line between self-identified American Liberals and Conservatives, culture wars, marriage and accountability. The new play will stream on demand for free from October 16-31, 2024. Registration is required and can be made at https://lortel.org/FEAST/.

This fall also welcomes the return of Conversations from the Alcove, a web series hosted on the Lortel's YouTube channel featuring conversations with playwrights on arts, ideas, craft and the world. Participating playwrights include Lisa Sanaye Dring on September 10; Arturo Luíz Soria on September 24; Exal Iraheta, Iraisa Ann Reilly, and Monica Sanchez on October 1 as part of a Latine playwrights roundtable; Vickie Ramirez and Drew Woodson on October 15 as part of an Indigenous playwrights roundtable; Kristen Adele Calhoun on October 29; Georgina Escobar on November 1; Matthew Paul Olmos on November 12; Kirsten Greenidge on November 26; Simon Stephens on December 3; Tristan B Willis on December 10; and Jennifer Maisel on December 24.

On November 25, The Alcove at the Lortel will partner with the Playwrights Guild of Canada for the online series Crafty Bites that include a conversation between Lortel commissioned playwright Azure Osborne-Lee and Breton Lalama.
