Theatre for a New Audience will present a live taping of the podcast Person Place Thing with host Randy Cohen interviewing internationally acclaimed director Trevor Nunn on Sunday, January 24, at 7:00pm at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $12 for Theatre for a New Audience subscribers.
Trevor Nunn is directing Theatre for a New Audience's production of
William Shakespeare's Pericles featuring OBIE Award-winner
Christian Camargo in the title role leading a diverse company of 22 actors. Pericles begins previews February 14 for an opening on February 25. It is scheduled to run through March 27.
Trevor Nunn's most recent production in New York was in 2013 --
Samuel Beckett's All That Fall. A four-time Tony and Olivier Award-winner and former Artistic Director of the
Royal Shakespeare Company and
Royal National Theatre, he's "as celebrated for his staging of blockbuster musicals (Cats, LES MISERABLES) as for his revitalizing of classic texts," wrote
Ben Brantley, The New York Times.
Person Place Thing (
www.personplacething.org) is an interview show based on the idea that people are particularly engaging when they speak not directly about themselves but about something they care about. Guests talk about one person, one place, and one thing that are important to them.
The result? Surprising stories from great talkers.
Randy Cohen, for twelve years, wrote "The Ethicist," a weekly column for The New York Times Magazine. Mr. Cohen's first professional work was writing humor pieces, essays and stories for newspapers and magazines (The New Yorker, Harpers, the Atlantic, Young Love Comics). His first television work was writing for "Late Night with
David Letterman," for which he won three Emmy awards. His fourth Emmy was for his work on
Michael Moore's "TV Nation." He received a fifth Emmy as a result of a clerical error, and he kept it. His new book is Be Good: How to Navigate the Ethics of Everything.
Pericles relates a surging adventure story - a hero wanders Odysseus-like through the world of the Mediterranean - and climaxes with events that are seemingly miraculous. An original score composed by Tony-nominated
Shaun Davey (with whom
Trevor Nunn has worked six times, including his film of Twelfth Night) will help in telling the story and conveying the mystery and magic of the ending. The acclaimed storyteller-musicians of PigPen Theatre Co. will lend their voices and instrumentation to the production, playing Mr. Davey's score and performing various roles throughout.
