Ovation Award Winner Cabrillo Music Theatre is pleased to announce Leslie Spencer Smith, cast member from Cabrillo's recent smash hit production of BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO, has accepted a role in New York City's production of THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES.

Cabrillo Music Theatre, Ovation Award Winner and Resident Musical Production Company to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, is celebrated for casting the most promising regional talent alongside professional performers to produce critically acclaimed productions. Cabrillo's most recent smash hit, BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO, featured an audience full of Neil Sedaka fans howling in joy when Neil Sedaka took the stage and sang "Love Will Keep Us Together." Leslie Spencer Smith charmed audiences in the 1,800 seat Fred Kavli Theatre, as "Marge" in Cabrillo's west coast premiere of BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO. Soon after, Leslie was cast in the New York City production of THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES. Cabrillo produces a season of large-scale musical theatre productions with over 43 performances each season that attract audience members throughout Southern California. "Leslie is an enormously talented and powerful vocalist, whose presence mesmerizes audiences. We are fortunate to include her among the many great ‘Cabrillo family' talents we bring to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza," remarks Cabrillo Music Theatre's President and Chief Executive Officer, Carole W. Nussbaum.

Through the years Cabrillo has been the launching point and landing platform for many high profiled careers. This includes TV and film stars such as AMERICAN IDOL'S Katharine McPhee, HAIRSPRAY star Amanda Bynes, Cassie Silva and Natalie Lander, both appearing on MTV's LEGALLY BLONDE, THE MUSICAL: THE SEARCH FOR ELLE WOODS, and Janelle Velasquez, guest starring on the new TV show 90210. Cabrillo alums also include Broadway leads Stephanie J. Block, starring in 9 TO 5, THE PIRATE QUEEN and WICKED, Jenna Leigh Green, appearing in WICKED and BARE, Rena Stober, who starred in Broadway's LES MISERABLES along with the world premiere of ZHIVAGO, Ashley Moniz in the national tour of High School Musical, and Aubrey Elson in the national tour of CATS. We recently welcomed 80's "Pop Princess" and Broadway and West End star Deborah "Debbie" Gibson to the Cabrillo family when she starred as Anna in our production of THE KING AND I. Hogan Fulton, 11 years old and unknown, performed in Cabrillo's production of THE MUSIC MAN. He has now starred in the title role of the London production of BILLY ELLIOT.

Cabrillo Music Theatre's "Must-See" 2009 Season continues with 42ND STREET (March 2009) and CATS (July 2009). Ovation Award Winner, Cabrillo Music Theatre, is the resident musical theatre company to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza and a non-profit theatre organization. For over three decades, Cabrillo has been enriching the cultural life of Ventura County and its surrounding areas by providing an extraordinary performing arts experience through live, Broadway-quality productions of musical theatre. It is Cabrillo's mission to provide the highest quality musical experience, to foster educational opportunities, and to promote cultural and artistic enrichment to enhance the quality of life in our community. To this end, Cabrillo Music Theatre has established the Adopt-A-School, ADOPT-A-SENIOR, and PET (Project Entertainment Troops) outreach programs. Since the inceptions of these programs, thousands of underserved children, in need seniors, active military and their families have enjoyed Cabrillo Music Theatre's productions at no charge. With the ADOPT-A-SCHOOL, ADOPT-A-SENIOR, and PET programs, Cabrillo makes live theatre accessible to children, seniors, and military men and women who otherwise may never have the opportunity to experience a live musical theatre performance.
