Lark Play Development Center & Catherine Coray Present hotINK at the LARK

hotINK at the LARK will showcase work by nine playwrights from outside the United States in afternoon and evening readings. This is the first festival presented at the Lark Play Development Center's brand new facilities on West 43rd Street. Each day includes staged readings, featuring the work of distinguished New York actors and directors, with post-reading events to meet the writers and foster international collaboration.

The 2011 Playwrights hail from Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, India, Ireland, Nigeria, The Netherlands and The Philippines. The selected plays are: SUITCASES ON THE ROAD by Geert Genbrugge; THE APOCALYPSE COMES AT 6 PM by Georgi Gospodinov ; FOREVER by Elmar Maripuu; THE STONE by Marius von Mayenburg; THE INTERVIEW by Siddharth Kumar; THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ORSON by Jessica Cooke; ONIONS MAKE US CRY by Zainabu Jallo; MOTEL TEXEL by Marjolein Bierens; and STREETLIGHT MANIFESTO by Mixkaela Villalon.

The festival features the work of NYC directors Ian Morgan, May Adrales, Elinor Renfield, Rachel Chavkin, Giovanna Sardelli, Lisa Rothe, Kevin Kuhlke, Josh Hecht and Joe Grifasi.

Opening Night Reading: Thursday March 24 at 7:30pm

Festival runs: Friday - Monday, March 25 - 28 with readings at 4pm and 7:30pm daily

BACKGROUND:
hotINK began in 2002, created by Kevin Kuhlke in his capacity as Chair of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts Department of Drama. He and the Department supported its expansion over many years with the very generous help of producer Daryl Roth. Since its inception, hotINK has been an opportunity for Tisch Drama students and recent graduates to interface with distinguished professionals. This tradition will continue at the Lark with Tisch alumni taking part as actors, directors, assistant directors and production staff. Major support for hotINK at the LARK has been provided by well known Tisch Drama alumni Wendy van den Heuvel (W Foundation), Haley Joel Osment and James Roday.

The festival has introduced New York audiences to plays from Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guadaloupe, Ireland, Japan, Libya, Mexico, Morocco, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, The Netherlands, the U.K., the U.S. and Wales. Readings are attended by fellow playwrights, literary managers, producers, artistic directors, translators, dramaturgs, scholars, journalists, educators, students and New York theatre audiences.

ABOUT DIRECTOR/CURATOR:
Catherine Coray is the director of the hotINK International Festival of Play Readings, which was presented each January at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts from 2002-2010 and is now part of the Lark Play Development Center. Catherine has taught acting at the Tisch School of the Arts Experimental Theatre Wing since 1991; she also teaches and collaborates with artists in San Antonio de los baños and Havana, Cuba; Santiago, Chile; Minsk, Belarus; and in Graz and Vienna, Austria. As an actor, Catherine worked with such directors as Anne Bogart, Susan Dietz, Andre Gregory, Michael Kahn and Lois Weaver; as a director, she has staged work by Keith Curran, Richard Hoehler, Holly Hughes, Jessica Litwak and Martin Moran. Catherine is a member of the Lark Play Development Center's Artistic Cabinet and the International Committee of the League of Professional Theatre Women. In March 2011, she will co-curate the NoPassport Conference with playwright Caridad Svich.
