In response to popular demand, Labyrinth Theater Company extends the New York premiere of The Way West by Mona Mansour to April 10. The production, which opened on March 16, is directed by Labyrinth Artistic Director Mimi O'Donnell and features Labyrinth Company Member and Obie award-winner Deirdre O'Connell. The Way West is a new, offbeat comedy about life and debt. The production must close on the 10th.
In the play, Mom (O'Donnell) has entered a new chapter in her life: Chapter 11. Of course, that doesn't stop her from spending money... Or borrowing money... Or loaning out money... Or digging herself deeper and deeper into debt. When her two daughters decide to stage a financial intervention, things look like they're getting better. Until they don't.
In a recent New York Times profile of O'Connell, Erik Piepenburg writes, "Working-class tragedies. Troubled suburban romances. Everymoms on family tightropes. This is the emotionally fraught terrain Ms. O'Connell has walked with subtlety and ferocity over some 40 years as an actress."
Joining O'Donnell in The Way West are Nadia Bowers as Manda, Curran Connor as Robbie/Delivery Guy, Alfredo Narcisco as Luis, Anna O'Donoghue as Meesh, and Portia as Tress.
The creative team includes David Meyer (sets), Bradley King (lights), Ryan Rumery (sound), Ásta Bennie Hostetter (costumes) and Lily Perlmutter (production stage manager).
Performances of The Way West will now take place through April 10 (see schedule above) at Bank Street Theater, located at 155 Bank Street in Manhattan. Tickets for both the original run and the extension are $40 and can be purchased by visiting labtheater.org or by calling 212.513.1080.
