La Vie Theaters announces its PINK CARPET CANCER CHARITY EVENT: "An Evening Celebrating Life and Hope featuring Yahweh on Broadway (the musical). The night's event will enlighten, entertain, and provide hope through the innovative powers of the arts! This thought provoking occasion will take place at the Jackie Kennedy-Onassis Theater on October 28th 2012.
The evening is headlined by a performance of the moving musical Yahweh on Broadway, written, produced and composed by Shandell King whose experience includes roles in the hit TV sitcom Tyler Perry's House of Payne and CBS's Guiding Light. Artistic Direction by Gilberto Arribas, with Grammy Award Nominee film composer, arranger and producer Joel Diamond providing musical direction and brings their expertise. Joel has served as musical director for Eric Clapton and has produced for a wide array of ballets, theatrical and films.
This exclusive charity event will raise awareness and provide healing, hope, and inspiration for those who have experienced or identified with breast cancer in their life or community. The effects of a cancer diagnosis can be devastating both physically and mentally. "Our mission is to raise funds for cancer research and to enlighten entertain and provide hope, to those affected by the disease" said Foundation Director Shandell King. "Recognizing the devastation of cancer can create healing in its wake", La Vie Theaters Inc. has developed this creative event to carry out its mission of hope and awareness.
The featured musical, Yahweh on Broadway, is a compelling story of Greg McKenzie played by Taso Mikroulis journey and triumph after suffering the loss of his mother to breast cancer. It is a journey to finding peace with God in the shadow of this tragedy. The inspired musical was written after the tragic loss of the playwright's cousin to Hodgkin's Lymphoma while also enduring the rising number of friend's with loved ones affected by cancer.
"Yahweh is coming to Broadway, and Greg is determined to stop him" explains King. "He is devastated that God would allow his mother to die. Three yentas Susan, Deborah, and Dinah played by Stephanie Valkanas, Julia Peterson, Malikia Cee try to comfort Greg during his time of bereavement, but his adamancy forces the hand of God, transitioning him into the biblical times of the Exodus where he witness' powers unbeknown to him and meets Moses played by Matthew Burgos, Aaron the brother of Moses played by Cairo George, Miriam the sister of Moses played by Lana Stevens, other featured performer Donald Paul plays Jimmy a close friend of Greg in this talented and diverse cast , this tragic story leads to joy, an awakening and forgiveness!". The Music Direction by Joel Diamond is an inspirational mix of outstanding ballads and group numbers in the grand tradition of Broadway.
The magical evening will serve to honor the lives of loved ones lost and those who are battling cancer, as well as the 9/11 first responders that fell victim to cancer due to asbestos poisoning. The first 40 cancer patients to attend the event will receive cancer care bags containing makeup and hope and wellness literature, the first 100 tickets purchased will be entered to win an exclusive dinner for two at the fabulous Blue Water Grill in Union Square, New York.
The entire cast and crew brings a wealth of theater experience and an even stronger abundance of passion for this cause. They are committed to the organization's mission and together, set a goal of raising $40,000 to support the cause for breast cancer research.
