The producers of Los Monólogos de la Vagina announced today that beginning today, June 3 the production will make complimentary English translations headsets available to audience members.
Producer Morris Gilbert said, "We are beyond thrilled with the reception that New York has given us and want to make sure that audiences that may not speak Spanish can experience this remarkable production." Richard Fitzgerald, owner of Sound Associates which supplies the show's sound system, said, "Our company has helped to make many shows available to people who don't speak English. We are so proud to be part of the Los Monólogos de la Vagina phenomenon and to create our first-ever English language translation."
Los Monólogos de la Vagina is the Spanish language version of Eve Ensler's groundbreaking show, The Vagina Monologues, and plays at its original off-Broadway home, the Westside Theatre (407 West 43rd Street). It opened on May 18.
The show stars Kate del Castillo, Angélica Maria and Angélica Vale through June 1. Tony Award nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega leads the cast from June 1-22; she will be joined by Maria Cellario and Flor De Liz Perez. Mexican director Jaime Matarredona helms the production. Morris Gilbert and Federico González Compeán are the producers of the long-running Mexico City production of Los Monólogos de la Vagina and two of the most prominent and prolific producers of Spanish language theatre in the world. The production is modeled after the current Mexico City production, now in its 14th year. Los Monólogos de la Vagina is performed by a revolving cast and a portion of each ticket sold will go directly to benefit V-Day, the global activist movement founded by Eve Ensler whose mission is to end violence against women.
