The FunkeyMonkeys, the acclaimed rock band for kids, begins an open-ended run of their new live show at Off-Broadway's Daryl Roth Theatre (101 E. 15th St.) on Sunday, October 14, 2007.
"The FunkeyMonkeys are a wild and funny band of musical monkeys who play their own instruments, twist their own balloons, and make up zany stories on the spot with help from the audience. It's hilarious for adults and delirious for kids (recommended ages 2 – 8)," state press notes.
"Created by 'Dora the Explorer' composer Joshua Sitron, the FunkeyMonkeys are more than just a rock band for kids. They are an interactive musical-storytelling experience. Each monkey plays a variety of instruments, is trained in improv comedy, and has extensive professional experience working with children. Described as a 'Seinfeld Meets The Wiggles,' the show incorporates funny sketches and improvised bits, along with their unique brand of truly funky kid's music."
"With Mike Gold, the master balloon twister known as 'Ballooniac;' Carey White, the zany, golden throated violin virtuoso and yenta; and musical wunderkinds Stuart Bogie, Brian Carter and Eric Biondo, the Funkeymonkeys never fail to thrill kids of all ages!"
"The band made their live stage debut in September 2003 at Makor on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Taking inspiration from diverse sources such as 'The Muppet Show's' breaking of the fourth wall, 'Saturday Night Live's' combination of sketch comedy and music, and Moulin Rouge's freedom to mix and match original and cover music in medleys and mish mash, the live show became an instant hit, and has played throughout New York City ever since."
Featuring song titles including "Tastes Like Chicken," "I'd Like a Banana" and "Sing, Dance and Underpants," the new FunkeyMonkeys concert is co-created by Kimberly Foster and presented Off-Broadway by Daryl Roth.
In addition to the live show, the FunkeyMonkeys have released four CDs: "FunkeyMonkeys!;" "Sing, Dance and Underpants;" "Jewish FunkeyMonkeys" and "Tastes Like Chicken."
