Atlantic Theater Company announces casting for the world premiere production of Fireflies, written by Donja R. Love and directed by Saheem Ali. Fireflies is the second part of Donja R. Love's trilogy, which began with the acclaimed play Sugar in Our Wounds, also directed by Saheem Ali.
Fireflies will star Khris Davis (Broadway's Sweat and FX's "Atlanta") and DeWanda Wise (Netflix's "She's Gotta Have It"). Fireflies marks DeWanda Wise's return to Atlantic after graduating with honors as a BFA Representative from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Atlantic Acting School. She was a recipient of the Scholar Award as well as the Atlantic Achievement in Studio Award.
Fireflies begins previews Wednesday, September 26th and will open Monday, October 15th for a limited engagement through Sunday, November 11th, 2018 Off-Broadway at the Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).
Somewhere in the Jim Crow South, the sky is on fire. A pregnant Olivia's fierce speech writing is the sole force behind her charismatic husband Charles and his successful Movement to galvanize people to march towards freedom. When four little girls are bombed in a church, Olivia and Charles' marriage is threatened - as this tragedy and years of civil unrest leave Olivia believing that "this world ain't no place to raise a colored child."
Fireflies will feature scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by David Weiner, sound design by Justin Ellington, projection design by Alex Basco Koch and casting by Telsey + Company: Adam Caldwell, CSA; Will Cantler, CSA; Karyn Casl, CSA.
