Algonquin Theater Productions has announced that veteran theater stars Ken Jennings from the United States and Joaquin Romero from Mexico will be portraying Walter Winchell in the international presentation of the new Al Tapper musical The Paparazzi. The performance will feature casts from both Guadalajara and New York as they tell the tale of The Paparazzi in both English and Spanish. This one night only event will be done at the historic Ellington Room at 400 West 43rd Street, February 28th at 7:30pm.

Jennings and Romero will alternately star as the ghost of Winchell, America's first gossip columnist. Here they narrate the cautionary tale of Christie Barnes (played by L.R. Davidson and Mafer Santes), an ambitious young journalist who yearns to write for The New York Times but instead finds herself at the Beacon, a tabloid run by the mercurial Mike Peterson (Andrew Foote and Victor Aceves). It's a high energy world of secrets and lies, where truth is less important than speed and accuracy less important than notoriety. The Paparazzi turns the spotlight on the people who turn the spotlight on celebrities, and examines America's fascination with the rich and famous.

The evening of the 28th is being directed by legendary Mexican director Mauricio Cedeno, with music direction by David Wolfson. Algonquin plans to produce The Paparazzi in both English and Spanish in New York, 2019.

Jennings has been in the Broadway productions of Urinetown, Sweeney Todd, Sideshow, A Christmas Carol, Grand Hotel, London Assurance, Present Laughter and All God's Chillun Got Wings, the last two being directed by the immortal George C. Scott. He won the 1979 Drama Desk Award as Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Tobias in Sweeney Todd. Romero has participated in a large number of theater projects in both English and Spanish, including Titus Andronicus, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Scarlet Pimpernell, Godspell and Amadeus. In 2001 he won the Best Supporting Actor for his role in Godspell at the Tec de Monterrey Theatre Musical Festival. He has performed in two previous Algonquin Productions, National Pastime and The Paparazzi, both in Guadalajara.

Also appearing in the evening are the Mexican actors Vanessa Arroyo, Enrique Valdes Arces, Sandra Geneviere and Javier Lacroix. The New York actors include Ezekiel Andrew, Al Bundonis, Grace Field, Mary Lauren, Kelli Maguire, Paige Sommerer, Dan Van Why and Viet Vo.
