Jenna Leigh Green and Sally Schwab will join One Life to Live's Kathy Brier and two-time Drama Desk Award nominee, Christina Bianco, in the Off-Broadway revival of The Marvelous Wonderettes, opening this spring! Last week, producers Tom and Michael D'Angora announced plans to shimmy the hit musical - featuring classic 50's and 60's hits including "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Son of a Preacher Man," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," and "It's My Party" - back to the off Broadway stage. Joining the previously announced Brier as Suzy and Bianco as Missy will be Green as the backstabbing Cindy Lou and Schwab as class clown Betty Jean. The brand new production begins previews Wednesday, March 23rd and opens Thursday, April 28th at New York's Theatre Row. The Marvelous Wonderettes takes a cotton candy-colored musical trip down memory lane, paying homage to the high school songleader squads of the 1950s. When called upon to perform at their senior prom, four girls with dreams as big as their crinoline skirts, rally together to entertain their classmates in four-part harmony. Audiences experience their lives and loves through more than twenty chart-topping hits of the era!
Ms. Green is best known for her role as Libby Chessler on TV's Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She played Nessarose in the Broadway, Los Angeles and First National companies of Wicked. Other New York credits bare (original Off-Broadway production), Chick Flick (Loft 227), and numerous workshops and readings. With NYMF, she was seen in Its On, Standby and most recently, as Nancy Kerrigan in Tonya and Nancy: The Musical. Ms. Green has guest starred on television in Bones, Ghost Whisperer, Castle, Cold Case, ER, and Dharma and Greg. Feature film credits include You Again and the upcoming My Eleventh, Hard Sell and I am Michael.
Ms. Schwab made her Off-Broadway debut working with Tom and Michael D'Angora in A Broadway Diva Christmas. She later went on to appear in "Back in Pictures" and as Queenie in the Provincetown Theatre's production of Lippa's The Wild Party. When she's not performing, Ms. Schwab teaches global history at South Bronx Preparatory School where she launched the school's first ever theatre program. This year, she will direct the school's third musical production.
Ms. Brier is best known for her role as Marcie Walsh McBain on ABC's One Life to Live. She has played the role for nine years and in that time, has received an Emmy nomination and a Spirit Award for Best Actress in a Drama. Ms. Brier can also be seen on HBO's Boardwalk Empire as Sophie Tucker, a role that has earned her two Grammy Awards for her participation on the Boardwalk Empire Volume I & II soundtracks. Kathy made her Broadway debut in Hairspray as Tracy Turnblad and made her Off-Broadway debut in the rock musical cult hit Bat Boy The Musical.
Ms. Bianco first gained notoriety as a YouTube sensation for her hilarious impression videos, channeling the likes of Christina Aguilera and Julie Andrews. With over 21 million views worldwide, she has performed her impressions on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Queen Latifah Show and The Today Show. As an actress, Ms. Bianco most recently starred in the one-woman Off-Broadway comedy, Application Pending, and has been featured in several editions of NEWSical the Musical and Forbidden Broadway.
The Marvelous Wonderettes was created, written, and originally directed by Roger Bean. The previous New York production played at the West Side Theatre from September 2008 to January 2010. Since then, the show enjoyed numerous productions all over the world, and two sequels: The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns and Winter Wonderettes.
Tom D'Angora is the producer of the long running hits NEWSical the Musical and Naked Boys Singing, both playing at The Kirk Theatre.
The Marvelous Wonderettes begins previews Wednesday, March 23rd and opens Thursday, April 28th. The show will play Wednesdays at 2:30pm and 8:15pm, Thursdays at 8:15pm, and Sundays at 3:00pm.
