Just in Time--The Judy Holliday Story will have its world premiere as part of the 2010 New York International Fringe Festival where it will play five performances at The Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street at 6th Avenue and Varick Street) from August 15 - August 28. Written and directed by Bob Sloan, Just in Time--The Judy Holliday Story stars Marina Squerciati as Judy Holliday, fresh from a recent tour of 39 Steps and Broadway's To Be or Not to Be. The production also features Mary Gutzi, Adam Harrington and Catherine LeFrere.
Just in Time--The Judy Holliday Story is a fast-paced romp through the life of the Original Dumb Blond and of one of the funniest actresses of all time. The play features Holliday's exalted cohorts such as Orson Welles, Betty Comden & Adolph Green, Katherine Hepburn, Nicholas Ray, Gloria Swanson and Jimmy Durante and songs she made famous like "Loving You," written by Holliday with jazz legend Gerry Mulligan, and of course "Just in Time." With numerous quick changes and snappy patter, the play takes us back-stage and on-set in this buoyant valentine to a bygone era of Hollywood and Broadway.
Writer/director Bob Sloan's play The Box was a favorite at the 2006 Fringe Festival. He is also the author of a critically acclaimed series of detective novels featuring the homicide detective Lenny Bliss (Grove/Atlantic). He has written seven cookbooks as well as articles for Gourmet and Playboy. Sloan is reuniting with Ms. Squerciati whom he had the pleasure of directing a few years back at The Dalton School where he continues to teach acting and playwriting.
