Irish Arts Center Presents The US Premiere of I Heart Alice Heart I 2/29-3/17

The Irish Arts Center is set to present the US premiere of 'I Heart Alice Heart I' by the Dublin-based Irish theatre-makers HotforTheatre, from February 29th to March 17th, 2012.

'I Heart Alice Heart I ' is an unflinching and astonishingly personal love story of two exceptional, opinionated women – Alice and Alice – who have been in love for the best part of six decades. It is coming to New York direct from a run at Ireland's Abbey Theatre, runs for 15 performances with press performances at 8pm on Wednesday, February 29th, Thursday, March 1st and Saturday March 3rd. The official opening is on Sunday, March 4th at 7pm.

The performance schedule is Wednesday – Saturday at 8pm (no 8pm show Friday, March 2nd); Saturday at 2pm (no 2pm show Saturday, March 3rd); and Sunday at 3pm (no 3pm show Sunday March 4th, but a special 7pm performance is scheduled for opening night). Performances are at the Irish Arts Center's 99-seat Off Broadway theater (553 West 51st Street between 10th and 11th Avenues).

Written and directed by AMY CONROY (recently nominated for a 2011 Irish Times theatre award), this fresh, human and hilarious piece from defiant new company HotForTheatre was developed with CLARE BARRETT and is performed by AMY CONROY and CLARE BARRETT and designed by CIARÁN O'MELIA.

About the show: "Exploring the monumental journey of a most unlikely couple 'I Heart Alice Heart I' won both the Fishamble New Writing Award and award for Best Female Performance when it premiered at the Dublin Fringe Festival." 

'I Heart Alice Heart I' was originally produced at the Dublin Fringe Festival in September 2010 and was then revived as part of the 'Reviewed' series at the Dublin Theatre Festival in October 2011. Before coming to the Irish Arts Center it will be produced at The Abbey Theatre, Ireland's National Theatre in February 2012.

HotForTheatre is a new Irish theatre company run by Amy Conroy that believes theatre should provoke, move and delight in equal measure. The company's 2nd show 'Eternal Rising of the Sun' premiered in ABSOLUT Fringe 2011 and won the Best Female Performer Award and was nominated for the prestigious Spirit of the Fringe Award, Conroy's performance in the show has also been nominated for the Best Actress Award in this years Irish Times Theatre Awards.
