Producer Daryl Roth announced today that Jayne Houdyshell and Carol Kane will join the March cast of Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron's hit Off Broadway show, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, which has been playing to sold-out houses at The Westside Theatre. They join the previously announced Didi Conn, Fran Drescher and Natasha Lyonne. Rosie O'Donnell, who performed as part of the opening cast and was to return to the show in March, had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts and family obligations.
It was also announced today that Love, Loss, and What I Wore has been extended again, due to popular demand. Tickets for the show are now on sale through May 30, 2010. The show, which opened October 1, 2009 to rave reviews and was originally scheduled to play a 12-week run, recouped its initial investment after just 11 weeks.
Beginning in April, a Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. performance will be added to the schedule, replacing the Sunday at 7:00 p.m. performance.
Directed by
Karen Carpenter, this collection of stories is based on the best-selling book by
Ilene Beckerman, as well as on the recollections of the Ephrons' friends. Like the popular book, Love, Loss, and What I Wore uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often poignant stories that all women can relate to. The production will continue to be performed by a rotating cast of five all-star actors, who will perform in four-week cycles.
The current cast (through February 28th) includes
Janeane Garofalo,
Joanna Gleason,
Carol Kane,
June Diane Raphael and
Caroline Rhea. Among the alumni are
Samantha Bee,
Kristin Chenoweth,
Tyne Daly,
Michele Lee,
Jane Lynch,
Rhea Perlman,
Rita Wilson and many others.
The design team for Love, Loss, and What I Wore includes Jo Winiarski (Scenic Design), Bobby Frederick Tilley II (Costume Design), Jeff Croiter (Lighting Design), Walter Trarbach (Sound Design) and Maria Verel (Make-Up Design).
A portion of the production's proceeds will benefit Dress for Success, a charity that provides work clothing and job support for low-income women. Audience members continue to be invited to donate their gently-used purses and other accessories in the theatre lobby.
The current performance schedule is as follows: Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. & 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m. & 7 p.m. Beginning April 4th, 2010, the performance schedule will change to: Tuesday at 7 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. & 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m. (There will be additional performances on Sunday, April 11 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 2 at 7 p.m. and no performance on Tuesday, March 30 and Tuesday, April 27.)
