Luis Salgado and R.Evolución Latina (RL) are pleased to announce their new partnership with Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater (PRTT) in celebration of RL's 10 year anniversary. The Spring 2018 Edition of BEYOND WORKSHOP SERIES (BWS), an interdisciplinary (acting, dance, music) workshop and outreach program with professional teaching artists from Broadway, Film and TV, will be taught in conjunction with the historic Raúl Juliá Training Unit.

Auditions for BWS will take place on Tuesday, February 13th. As it is an invited audition, interested parties are encouraged to apply at REvolucionLatina.com. The classes will take place from March 12th until the 30th, 10am to 4pm in Harlem.

This year's BWS will focus on select text from Shakespeare, integrating music and dance. The workshop will culminate in a devised piece of theatre, developed by the RL creative team supported by PRTT's Raul Julia Training Unit music department and will be performed at the Harlem School for the Arts. The BWS offers excellent, affordable training, combined with rehearsal and performance opportunities, while cultivating the leadership skills necessary to unite and inspire our Latino community. In order to constantly grow as artists and activists, those selected to be members of BWS's Class of 2018 will have performance and outreach events throughout the workshop and throughout the year.

Luis Salgado, RL director, states, "This year's thematic focus is "language", "going beyond" and "embracing your tribe" through the words of Shakespeare." He is excited that "participants will not only move beyond their fears and the realities of society as artists and/or immigrants, but they will also share their truth, their humanity, and their own artistic contributions. We believe that it is opportunities like this one that build a greater community. We seek artists that are dedicated to growing and giving back through their art."

“Partnering with REvolución Latina’s Beyond Workshops Series is a coherent, exciting step for our Training Unit. We have a common goal and commitment to rigorous arts training, and to creating exciting opportunities for growth and impact in our communities," says Rosalba Rolón, Artistic Director Pregones/PRTT.

RL has provided approximately 30 scholarships between Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and beyond, to continue to inspire young professionals and expose them to an overall artistic experience in NYC.

Pregones Theater was founded in 1979 when a group of actors led by Rosalba Rolón set out to create new theater works in the style of Caribbean and Latin American "colectivos" or performing ensembles. In the beginning, the group toured plays in Spanish to underserved communities throughout New York City, the Tri State area, and up the Eastern states to Philadelphia and Boston. Established soon after as a Bronx company, and now boasting 85 premieres in English and Spanish, 600+ visiting artist presentations, and more than 500 touring credits, Pregones is widely acknowledged as a leader and innovator in the arts.

The Puerto Rican Traveling Theater was founded in 1967, following the highly successful run of the first English-language production of La carreta/The Ox Cart, the classic drama of Puerto Rican migration by René Marqués. The play starred two rising stars that went on to become legends of stage and film: Raul Julia and Miriam Colón. Seeing how live theater was beyond the reach of most working families in New York at the time, Ms. Colón also set out to take the play to the streets. Under her leadership, the PRTT soon emerged as a beacon of the bilingual theater movement in the U.S., launching countless professional careers and introducing dozens of important playwrights to the American theater.

Together, Pregones Theater and Puerto Rican Traveling Theater continue to champion the many riches of Latino theater as a distinct tradition; nurture the development of extraordinary artists and new works; seed local neighborhoods with responsible leadership and revitalization; and galvanize generations of diverse artists and audiences.

R.Evolución Latina, is led by founder/director Luis Salgado and co-directors Denisse Ambert, Gabriela García, Heather Hogan. The non-profit organization runs six flagship programs for various ages and audiences such as a free summer camp for kids, workshops for adults artists in the disciplines of dance, voice and acting and Kids Beyond Broadway.
