Heiress Productions to Present Premiere of 'Three Movements' Starting 10/17

Heiress Productions presents the New York premiere of THREE MOVEMENTS by Martin Zimmerman from October 17 – 26 at the Studio Theatre, Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street, NYC).  Tickets are $18 and are available at www.ticketcentral.com or by phone at 212-279-4200.

Based on the life of ballet legend George Balanchine, THREE MOVEMENTS follows a fictional choreographer, Alexei, as he nurses polio-stricken Sonia, his wife and his greatest dancer.  Unable to face the reality that she will never dance again, he convinces himself that he can save his muse.  When he becomes frustrated with her lack of progress, though, he leaves her to pursue a promising young dancer, Lindsay.  The play examines the complex relationship between choreographer and dancer, the power of eroticism in art, and how people choose (or refuse) to confront illness and the aging process.

THREE MOVEMENTS is directed by Maura Farver and choreographed by Avichai Scher.  Set design is by Josh Zangen, costume design is by Melinda C. Basaca, lighting design is by Joel E. Silver and sound design is by Sharath Patel.  Featuring Erin Fogarty, Maria Portman Kelly and Mike Timoney.

Heiress Productions is a not-for-profit organization committed to raising cancer awareness and funds through entertaining and inspirational professional theatre productions.  The company produced Lunch Hour by Jean Kerr in May 2007 and James Sherman's farce Affluenza! in March 2008.

Martin Zimmerman (Playwright) is a second-year MFA Candidate in Playwriting at the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a graduate of Duke University where he received degrees in Theater Studies and Economics.  He is the recipient of The Louis Sudler Award in the Arts, The Benenson Award in the Arts, The Dasha Epstein Award in Playwriting, The Reynolds Price Award for Best Original Script, and he has been in residency at both New York Stage and Film and Steppenwolf Theatre Company.  He has received numerous productions at Duke University and his new play for young audiences, The Trial of Winter, was produced by Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission this past summer.

Maura Farver (Director) Directing credits include Sympathetic Division (Sweeter Theater Productions and Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival), Affluenza! (Heiress Productions), Miss Bingley-Hardin's Kindergarten Class (Impact Winter One Act Festival), Regularly Scheduled Programming (Vital Signs), The House of Yes (STP), Lunch Hour (Heiress Productions), and The Author's Voice (Williamstown Theatre Festival).  She received an award for Outstanding Direction for Sympathetic Division at MITF this summer.  Assistant directing credits include Flamingo Court (New World Stages) and Party Come Here (for Christopher Ashley, WTF).  Broadway PA credits include Spring Awakening, Three Days of Rain and The Odd Couple.  She is a graduate of Duke University and co-founder of Sweeter Theater Productions.

Erin Fogarty makes her New York theatre debut in THREE MOVEMENTS.  She studied both theatre and dance at Marymount Manhattan College.  After graduating with a BFA in Dance, she joined Carolina Ballet where she performed roles in a number of George Balanchine's most famous works as well as works by Lynne Taylor-Corbett and Robert Weiss.  After moving back to New York City, she joined Ballet NY and just performed in their season at The Joyce.

Maria Portman Kelly has performed with The Culture Project, Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex, Shakespeare Theatre Company, The Public Theater of Maine, The Theater at Monmouth, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and Actors Theatre of Louisville, among others.  Professional dance credits include two seasons with the Louisville Ballet, Susana Williams Company, and Ballet Espanol.  She graduated with honors from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and is a member of Actors' Equity Association.

Proceeds from THREE MOVEMENTS will benefit Us TOO, a grassroots organization started in 1990 by prostate cancer survivors to serve prostate cancer survivors, their spouses/partners and families.

THREE MOVEMENTS will be performed from October 17 – 26, 2008 at the Studio Theatre, Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street, NYC) with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 3pm, Monday and Tuesday at 7pm.  Additional performance Saturday, October 18 at 2pm.  Tickets are $18 and are available at www.ticketcentral.com or by phone at 212-279-4200.
