Atlantic Theater Company presents the world premiere of Posterity, written and directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Doug Wright and featuring Hamish Linklater, John Noble, Dale Soules, Henry Stram and Mickey Theis. Posterity will begin previews tonight, February 25 and officially open Sunday, March 15, 2015 for a limited engagement through Sunday, April 5 Off Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company at The Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).
Norway's most celebrated sculptor (Linklater) is commissioned to create the last official portrait of the country's most famous writer, but Henrik Ibsen (Noble) proves to be an irascible, contentious sitter, as the two men wage war over both his legacy and his likeness. With his inimitable wit and insight, Doug Wright explores the nature of artistic success and the fear of being forgotten.
Doug Wright received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Tony Award®, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award for his acclaimed play I Am My Own Wife and wrote the books for the Broadway musicals The Little Mermaid, Grey Gardens and Hands On a Hardbody. His screenplay adaptation of his Obie Award winning play Quills was nominated for three Academy Awards®, a Golden Globe Award® and was named Best Picture by the National Board of Review.
Hamish Linklater makes his Atlantic debut after recently appearing in the Public Theater's production of Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare in the Park and on Broadway in Seminar. On television he has starred in the CBS series "The Crazy Ones" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine." Acclaimed Australian actor and director John Noble is best known for his roles in the Fox series "Fringe" and "Sleepy Hollow" and as "Denethor" in the The Lords of the Rings motion picture trilogy. He recently starred Off Broadway in the Jon Robin Baitz play Substance of Fire. Dale Soules made her Broadway debut in the original company of Hair and most recently appeared in the Broadway musical Hands on a Hardbody. She returns to Atlantic following appearing in The Water Engine and The Joy of Going Somewhere Definite.
