Federico Garcia Lorca: poet, romantic, believer. Salvador Dalí: painter, modernist, scientist. Their tumultuous love affair began in college and ended with Dalí?s flight to Paris as Spain descended into civil war. ¡Olé! takes you into the bullring as these two matadors pit magic against science through paint, poetry and flamenco dance.
Through personal letters, public declarations and private musing on art?s purpose, engage with these two brilliant minds over issues still relevant today. These men personified the essential debate of magic versus science: what is the thing that keeps us together? Are we just a collection of molecules? Or is there a soul inside us, yearning for a higher calling for the human spirit? We invite you to a gypsy Flamenco cave where passion and ferocity rule as live music and dancing accompany these men through love, loss, and ultimate redemption.
The production will run tonight, January 31-February 16 at UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A); Thursday through Saturday at 8pm. Tickets ($18, $15 students & seniors) are available online at www.horsetrade.info or by calling Smarttix at 212-868-4444. The show runs 90 minutes, with no intermission.
