NEWLY DISCOVERED PLAY BY THE AUTHOR OF THE FIRST ORIGINAL PLAY PERFORMED AT LA MAMA TO HAVE PREMIERE BY GLASS BEADS THEATRE ENSEMBLE, FEBRUARY 3 and 4, OPENING FEBRUARY 5. TICKETS AT TICKET CENTRAL.

Lily of the Conservative Ladies, written in 1963, is a newly discovered play by Michael Locascio, who wrote the first original play performed at LaMama. It was discovered by director Mari Gorman as she was hunting for plays for her newly formed company, Glass Beads Theatre Ensemble. The play is a 1950s Noir Suspense drama with comic overtones about a murder involving a young woman controlled by her past. Performances will be at the June Havoc Theatre.

After his work was presented at LaMama, and while recovering from the breakup of his marriage, Locascio wrote the play and then repaired to Mexico, where he co-produced, directed or acted in over 35 productions. But Lily was never produced.

Three-time Obie winner Mari Gorman, who is also the recipient of the Theatre World Award, Drama Desk and Clarence Derwent Awards for acting, has directed plays in New York, Canada and in Los Angeles, where she received a DramaLogue Award for directing. She has been engaged for decades in an investigation of acting, which she considers her life's work and which has led to the formation of Glass Beads Theatre Ensemble. Joseph Papp endorsed her work with the following statement: "Mari Gorman's work is rich and stimulating. The multi-dimensional techniques she has discovered for probing the life of a role are based on sound acting principles. Her work towards the ideal theatre most certainly merits support."

In The cast of Lily of the Conservative Ladies are Danna Call, Christopher Estrada, Ondina Frate, Roy Havrilack, Stuti Kejriwal, Suzi Lindner, and Devon Talbott. Lighting is by Travis McHale, and the set is by Matt Brogan. Tickets are available thru Ticket Central. Go directly to Ticket Central or link via www.glassbeadstheatre.org.
