Gary Lehman To Replace Ben Heppner In 'Tristan' 3/14

 Gary Lehman will make his Met debut on Friday, March 14, singing the role of Tristan in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, replacing Ben Heppner, who is ill. The role of Tristan is TBA for the performances on Tuesday, March 18 and Saturday, March 22. Heppner is scheduled to sing the remaining performances on Tuesday, March 25 and Friday, March 28. 

Lehman sang the title role in Wagner's Parsifal at the Los Angeles Opera replacing an indisposed Plácido Domingo in 2005. His other Wagner roles to date include the title role in Tannhäuser and Siegmund in Die Walküre, and he has also sung Samson in Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila. He is scheduled to sing Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer at this summer's Savonlinna Festival in Finland, as well as Alwa in Lulu in Zagreb in October, and Don José in Carmen next year in Hawaii.

James Levine conducts and Deborah Voigt sings Isolde at all performances, as scheduled. The performance on Saturday, March 22 at 12:30 p.m. will be transmitted live to movie theaters around the world as part the of The Met: Live in HD series.
