GROWING UP GONZALES Comes to The Jerry Orbach Theater ImageThe NYC Theater Districts only Latino Off-Broadway play takes center stage at The Jerry Orbach Theater Friday January 12th and 19th.

When Johnny Gonzales loses his socially challenged younger brother Cisco to the unthinkable it becomes his responsibility to clean out his recently deceased younger brothers apartment. Johnny, with a heavy heart and the burden of a guilty conscious musters every inch of strength to accomplish the task at hand. While cleaning he discovers a shoe box filled with Cisco's memoirs. Reluctantly he begins to read the emotional and yet hilarious memoirs that depict Cisco's innocent interpretation of love, life and everything in between. Cisco takes Johnny on the ride of his life as the memoirs become Johnny's only way out of the guilt and pain he has locked himself into.

Growing Up Gonzales has been running Off Broadway for the last 11 months stopping only to change theaters as it continues it's critically acclaimed rise through the Off-Broadway ranks. The show is a solo performance play starring Andres "Chulisi" Rodriguez. Chulisi, in his diverse real life persona, represents a wide array of segments from NYC's vibrant community. Chulisi is Black, Gay and Latino and he is proud to be on stage representing each and every one of those segments. Chulisi, colourfully and comfortably plays the many roles that Gonzales demands. The Daily News called him "The love child of Sofia Vergara and Harvey Fierstein."

The writer, director and producer of the show is the author, Felix Rojas. After a 16 year hiatus from the industry Rojas returned 6 years ago with a string of critically acclaimed pieces including Growing Up Gonzales. With several works for film and television along with an original musical waiting in the wings Rojas is primed to take full advantage of the first big break that comes his way. Growing Up Gonzales is Rojas' love letter to the Bronx of the 1970's. Don't let the Latino title fool you. This show is for everyone.
