Folding Chair Classical Theatre will present PERICLES by William Shakespeare for a limited run, March 26 - April 19 at the Access Theatre. Folding Chair's Artistic Director, Marcus Geduld, will direct.
Join Folding Chair for a journey across the Mediterranean. PERICLES will whisk you along, as a young prince is swept to sea on a wild adventure tour. Evil kings, incestuous princesses, brothel keepers, jousting knights, violent storms and surly pirates are just a few of the challenges our hero faces as he finds his way from mortal danger to crushing tragedy and finally to miraculous redemption.
Folding Chair veteran James Arden ("30 Rock," "Kings") will play Pericles. The rest of the play's 30-plus roles will be played by four of Folding Chair's ensemble players (Lisa Blankenship, Gowan Campbell, Francine Margolis* and Josh Thelin*) and one newbie (we are pleased to welcome Larry Giantonio). They will switch roles at lightning speed and bring the play to life using only their wits, their skills and their long experience with Shakespeare. As usual, Folding Chair's actors perform on a bare stage, using only their voices, bodies and the text to bring the play to life.
Folding Chair's most recent production was CYMBELINE in October 2008. The New Theater Corps, the blog of PBS's Theater Talk, called it "a razzle-dazzle display of acting talent." The company continues its exploration of Shakespeare's late romances with PERICLES. Folding Chair invites you to join a rollicking evening of classical theatre.
