Actor/artist Federico Castelluccio will portray the 17th Century Renaissance painter Michelangelo Merisi da "Caravaggio" (1571-1610) in a reading of Richard Vetere's play Caravaggio at the Cherry Lane Theater on Tuesday, April 24th at 2pm.
Caravaggio is a reading in association with The Barefoot Theatre Company, as part of their bareNaked reading series, and the Vetere/Jankell reading series, along with producer Vincent Pastore. The Caravaggio reading is open to the public, is an Actor Equity reading...and it's free!
Castelluccio has been heavily influenced by Caravaggio and other 17th Century Old Masters in his own highly acclaimed painting career. He has studied Caravaggio's life and work extensively over the years and is thrilled to be involved in this theatrical reading, playing one of the most controversial artists in history.
As Castelluccio explains, "Caravaggio has inspired me both as a painter and an actor. His study of light and shadow enhance and intensify the human emotions in the realism that he brilliantly captures in his paintings, not unlike dramatic moments on stage".
