FREUD'S LAST SESSION, the new hit play by Mark St. Germain, will host a special post-performance discussion this Sunday, November 7th led by famed author and Harvard psychiatrist Dr. Armand M. Nicholi, Jr., whose bestselling book The Question of God served as the inspiration for Germain's celebrated play. Dr. Nicholi will be joined in Sunday's onstage event by Mark St. Germain as well as the show's stars, Mark H. Dold (C.S. Lewis) and Martin Rayner (Sigmund Freud). They will also conduct a Q & A session with the audience.
FREUD'S LAST SESSION opened Off-Broadway July 22nd to rave reviews and immediately became a sellout sensation. This strictly limited engagement is set to run through November 28th at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater, 10 West 64th Street (at Central Park West).
Under the direction of Tyler Marchant, the 2009 world premiere of FREUD'S LAST SESSION at Barrington Stage Company (MA) was extended twice and brought back by popular demand for two subsequent encore engagements. It holds the record as the longest-running show in Barrington Stage's history.
Dr. Nicholi's book The Question of God explores the diverging views of the militantly atheist founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, and Mere Christianity author, C.S. Lewis. The Question of God proved to be so successful that PBS subsequently produced a four-hour TV special under the same title.
FREUD'S LAST SESSION centers on the legendary Dr. Sigmund Freud, who invites the young, rising academic star C.S. Lewis to his home in London. Lewis, expecting to be called on the carpet for satirizing Freud in a recent book, soon realizes Freud has a much more significant agenda. On the day England enters World War II, Freud and Lewis clash on the existence of God, the joy of love, the purpose of sex, and the meaning of life - just a few weeks before Freud's own death. Not just a powerful debate, this is a profound and deeply touching play about two men who boldly addressed the greatest questions of all time.
