Celebrated actress Erin Davie, who made her Broadway debut (and won a Theatre World Award) for her breakthrough performance as Young "Edie" Beale in Broadway's GREY GARDENS opposite Christine Ebersole, has been cast in the lead role of Bella Kurnitz in Neil Simon's Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece LOST IN YONKERS (Ms. Davie will take on the role which won Mercedes Ruehl a Tony Award for Best Actress In 1991, a role she also recreated in the 1993 film version).
Ms. Davie was nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Musical (as well as an Astaire Award) for her star turn as Violet Hilton in the recent Broadway revival of SIDE SHOW.
Her many other starring roles on the Broadway stage include Yvonne/Naomi in the 2018 revival of Stephen Sondheim's SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford); Rosa Bud in the revival of THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD (starring opposite Chita Rivera); Countess Charlotte Malcolm in the Tony Award winning revival of another Sondheim classic, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC (starring opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, and Elaine Stritch); and Niki Harris in the Tony Award winning original musical CURTAINS (starring alongside David Hyde Pierce).
Davie has appeared Off-Broadway and regionally countless times, and is also known for playing Pat Warren on the Emmy Award winning Netflix series "Orange Is The New Black", Annette on the CBS hit "The Good Wife", and as Kirsten Fowler on NBC's "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit." Her numerous film credits include FLANNEL PAJAMAS; KING JACK; EASTER MYSTERIES; and the upcoming ANGELFISH.
Ms. Davie will play the pivotal role of Bella Kurnitz, joining the previously announced Rita Gardner (original Louisa in THE FANTASTICKS) as Grandma Kurnitz, Tim Realbuto (star of the upcoming motion picture YES) as Louie Kurnitz, Aidan Gemme (FINDING NEVERLAND; WAITING FOR GODOT) as Jay Kurnitz, Drew Logan Powell (Amazon's "THE DANGEROUS BOOK FOR BOYS") as Arty Kurnitz, Liz McCartney (TABOO; MY FAIR LADY) as Gert Kurnitz, and Graham Alexander Sack (original Arty in LOST IN YONKERS on Broadway) as Eddie Kurnitz.
Special guest stars will be announced in the coming days.
LOST IN YONKERS tells the story of Jay (Gemme) and Arty (Powell), who find their lives turned upside down when their father Eddie (Sack) moves south for work, leaving them with their no-nonsense Grandmother (Gardner) and their loving but absent-minded spinster Aunt Bella (Davie). Along the way, they're also introduced to their Uncle Louie (Realbuto), a small-time crook and their kind Aunt Gert (McCartney), who has developed a serious (but hilarious) breathing problem due to the fear that she has for her own mother.
The December production will be presented as a semi-staged reading with proceeds from ticket sales going to The National Alzheimer's Association, in honor of the late Neil Simon who recently passed away from the disease.
The other half of the proceeds will go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, in honor of Broadway star Marin Mazzie.
The one night only event will take place at The Engleman Concert Hall, 55 Lexington Avenue, in NYC on Sunday, December 9th at 7:30 PM. Tickets, priced from $25-$100, which went on sale earlier today, can be purchased at https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe.c/10356449 or by visiting the box office in person. Tickets may also be available at the door if the performance is not sold out in advance.
Mr. Realbuto will co-direct the evening with Paul Mitchell Wilder. Mr. Wilder directed the premiere of MANAHATTA, which later workshopped at The Public Theatre In NYC. Ryan A. Ross (DESPERATE MEASURES) will serve as the Production Stage Manager.
