Emmy Award Winner Don Scardino to Direct Tony Nominee Elizabeth Davis' New Musical MY NAME'S NOT INDIAN JOE Image

Emmy Award winner Don Scardino (A Few Good Men, 30 Rock) will be directing TONY and Drama Desk Award nominated actress Elizabeth A. Davis' (Once, Allegro) developmental production of MY NAME'S NOT Indian Joe. Created and conceived by Ms. Davis, the new musical is based on true events and will run July 11th through July 22nd at the Davenport Theatre, 354 West 45th Street. The production is co-produced by Angelica Zollo. http://indianjoemusical.com

The cast of MY NAME'S NOT Indian Joe features Robert Salas as the title role, with Davis as Liz. Josh A. Dawson (Beautiful), Donna Bullock(Ragtime), Luke Holloway (Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812), Anne Hairston (Stomp), Paul Lincoln (Allegro,) and Melody Berger (Gangstagrass) fill out the cast. Choreography is by Yasmine Lee (Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime) and Cynthia Meng (Moulin Rouge) is the musical director.

Based on true events, MY NAME'S NOT Indian Joe spotlights the unlikely friendship between a homeless Choctaw/North Mexican man named Joe and a wannabe Texas beauty queen named Liz. Their unlikely friendship takes them from the streets of Waco, TX to the avenues of New York City - with each of them making enormous sacrifices throughout their journey to becoming family. The progressive folk sound of the production weaves together acoustic instrumentation with strains of industrial pop. In this deeply fraught moment in our country, the show reminds us proximity is power on the dirt road to healing.

The piece was previously seen at The Cherry Lane Mentor Project, mentored by Tony Winner, Enda Walsh, with Angelina Fiordellisi & Chris Henry. It was workshopped at The Cleveland Play House's New Ground Festival, The Rhinebeck Writer's Retreat, & New York Stage & Film at Barnard. The Goodspeed Opera House Norma Terris Theatre & The Johnny Mercer Colony offered significant development opportunities with CRC Productions & Kim Weild.

"In creating this show, my hope is for people to see a way forward at a time when our public discourse is hostile at best. The call is to empathy and forgiveness," says Davis. "I'm dogged in trying to get the message of this show woven into every part of its DNA. Ultimately, reconciliation is worth it & listening is essential."

MY NAME IS NOT Indian Joe features scenic design by Ann Beyersdorfer (Afterglow), costumes by Fabian Aguilar (The Moors), lighting by Zach Blane (Too Much, Too Much, Too Many), & sound by Quentin Chiappetta (Irena's Vow.) The production is general managed by Evan Bernardin Productions. The production is being generously supported by Betty Sanderson,Chuck & Charlotte Fowler, LittleLion Productions, Rob & Holley Martens & Regina Green.
