Veteran Punk Rocker, Eddie Star, roars back on to the music scene as the Creative Director for the new O-Broadway musical, "Rockquiem for a Wrestler." The musical, inspired by the life of legendary wrestler Ivan Kolo? (The Russian Bear), was written by Actor, Singer, Writer, and Director Philip Paul Kelly (Elf the Musical, Ragtime on Ellis Island, Titanic the Musical).
Ten songs from Star's music catalog appear in the musical. The reading and songs created a buzz among theatre, music, and wrestling fans since its successful first reading back in March at New York's legendary Triad Theater.
"I thought it would be a good, compatible, form of music to compliment the grittiness of the wrestling environment," said writer Philip Paul Kelly in the recently released documentary. Star concurs "This is a new way for people to reconnect with these songs."
Star, who has over two decades in the music industry, worked with Producer Arthur G. Wright (The Righteous Bros., Ike and Tina Turner, Billy Preston). His last project, "JoyBox," released an album "Informal Deviance (13 Sexational Songs)" in 2015. In 2018, Star made his directorial debut with the short ?lm clip, "The Center of the Universe," and additional films are in production.
Star began his career at the age of 17, released a solo album ("Generation Zero," 1997) and blazed through the '90s as the leader of the Hollywood rockers, Eddie Star & The Zero Effect. He has worked with several bands including Guilt by Association, the 2004 MTV Battle for Ozzfest runner-up. In 2013, Star's catalog titles were re-issued, starting with the single, "2017" along with a video featuring a special appearance by former MTV VJ Jesse Camp. Star debuted his band, JoyBox, in 2013, and the band released "Informal Deviance (13 Sexational Songs)" in August of 2015.
