LAST OF THE KNOTTS - The semi-autobiographical, solo show written and performed by hipster poet Doug Knott and produced by Meadowbrook Entertainment, will be staged at SOHO PLAYHOUSE, 15 Vandam Street for 4 performances, tonight, Nov 10, Nov 17, Nov 24 & Dec 8.

Doug endures a childhood of severe abuse by his alcoholic father, a Florida judge obsessed with his own legacy. To spite his father, Doug declares he will be the "Last Of The Knotts." He then embarks on a carefree life to avoid the bourgeois anchor of family. Set in exuberant, darkly permissive 1980's Los Angeles, this hour-long "comi-tragedy" shadows his search for redemptive love with an exotic woman who deals cocaine and keeps a pet 7-foot boa constrictor. When she unexpectedly gets pregnant, her desire to have a child provokes a conflict, and Doug must choose fatherhood.... or Knott.

LAST OF THE KNOTTS was chosen BEST OF THE HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL 2011. And has been performed over thirty times it has been performed at the Asylum Lab Theatre and at the Santa Monica Playhouse. The play is directed by Darren Lee Cole, the current Directing Artistic Producer of Soho Playhouse, Knott has been a performance poet in LA since the early 80s. He produced and emceed his own cult variety show at the Lhasa Club and later had his own nightclub, Famous-Knott on La Brea in Hollywood. He was a member of the performance poetry group, the Carma Bums, touring the Western states in the 90s. Knott is a prolific poet, having had many of his works published and has won national awards for his poetry videos.
