DANIEL'S HUSBAND - the acclaimed new new play by Michael McKeever, directed by Joe Brancato - will begin performances tonightat The Westside Theatre (407 West 43 St.), with previews beginning Thursday, October 18 prior to opening night Sunday, October 28. Ted Snowdon is the producer of this open-end, Off-Broadway engagement.
DANIEL'S HUSBAND enjoyed considerable success last season when it debuted at Primary Stages, and Mr. Snowdon is pleased to announce the return of the play's entire original cast for this much-anticipated transfer: Anna Holbrook, Lou Liberatore, Matthew Montelongo, Ryan Spahn and Leland Wheeler.
DANIEL'S HUSBAND is Mr. McKeever's contemporary American play about two men - the personification of the perfect couple - who happen to have conflicting views of relationships. A turn of events forces them to face the consequences of their differences, and they learn that they are living in a world where fundamental rights aren't always so fundamental.
Producer Ted Snowdon states, "We are so lucky to be able to bring back our five original cast members, the perfect ensemble for this smart, romantic and provocative new play. We are also fortunate to have the ideal intimate space for DANIEL'S HUSBAND, the Westside Upstairs. As well, we have added new elements - both design and dramaturgical - that expand the production's striking vision since its debut over a year ago."
Ryan Spahn led the cast of Brandon Jacob-Jenkins' play GLORIA when it premiered at Vineyard Theatre, and appeared at Primary Stages in EXIT STRATEGY. Matthew Montelongo appeared in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE on Broadway, and in GOD'S EAR Off-Broadway. Anna Holbrook - in addition to years of stage work - is an Emmy Award-winning actress who starred for seven years in the cast of ANOTHER WORLD on daytime television, as well as having co-starred on THE UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT and BULL. Lou Liberatore was a Tony Award nominee for Featured Actor in the original Broadway production of BURN THIS, and also appeared in the Off-Broadway production of AS IS. Leland Wheeler can be seen in the films WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, and 1/1.
Playwright Michael McKeever's numerous dramas and comedies - 37 POSTCARDS, DANIEL'S HUSBAND, STUFF, MELT and Charlie Cox RUNS WITH SCISSORS - have been produced in the U.S. and internationally including Florida Stage, Marin Theatre, Hudson Stage and Phoenix Theatre. His play AFTER, also directed by Joe Brancato, will be in performance this September-October at Penguin Rep.
Joe Brancato directed COBB Off-Broadway, along with THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND BLUES OF Bessie Smith and TRYST. He is the artistic director of Penguin Rep.
Ted Snowdon's many Broadway producing credits include THE MOUNTAINTOP, A GENTLEMEN'S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER, MASTER CLASS with Tyne Daly, SPRING AWAKENING, THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED, SOUVENIR, and the original Tony Award-winning production of THE ELEPHANT MAN.
