CHRISTMAS IN HELL, a new musical comedy, will have a staged reading on Friday, December 22nd at 7 pm as part of the Urban Stages Winter Rhythms Festival (259 West 30th St). The show won the 2017 Show-Score Best of Fest Award (Reading) at the New York Musical Festival.
The book, lyrics and music were written by Gary Apple, a comedy writer for numerous primetime sitcoms and animated programs, including The Simpsons. Gary is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop, and his published plays have been produced throughout the country.
Directed by Richard Crawford (Cirque du Soleil), the show features actors with multiple Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national tour credits (including Richard Vida, Jonathan Stewart, Daniel Robert Sullivan and Joshua Turchin as Davin). Musical direction is provided by Logan Medland (national tours of Jersey Boys, A Christmas Story, Cats) who currently performs in the orchestra of Broadway's A Bronx Tale.
CHRISTMAS IN HELL takes you to a hospital, on Eve 2016, where Charles Manson is gravely ill and supposed to go to Hell.... but, oops! Sweet, little 6-year-old Davin is taken down to the fiery pit by mistake. Now Christmas is over and Davin is back...fiendishly changed. This irreverent musical follows Davin's father on his hilarious odyssey to get his son back to normal. Along the way, he meets fervent priests, a mystical crone, and a band of misfit Devil worshippers. Eventually, he descends to Hell itself and makes a wager with Lucifer he can't possibly win.
CHRISTMAS IN HELL is presented by Cherie Quain, Elena Rayman, and Alice Scovell, in association with the Urban Stages Winter Rhythms Festival. This show is rated PG-13 (or possibly 14).
Holiday fun for the whole family...except the kids.
