Creative Team Announced For Labyrinth's THE ATMOSPHERE OF MEMORY

LAByrinth Theater Company (Co-Artistic Directors Stephen Adly Guirgis, Mimi O'Donnell, Yul Vázquez, and Managing Director Danny Feldman) has announced the creative team for The Atmosphere of Memory by David Bar Katz. Pam MacKinnon (Obie Award-winner, Clybourne Park) will direct the World Premiere production, with Scenic Design by David Gallo (Tony Award-winner, The Drowsy Chaperone), Costume Design by Emily Rebholz (Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson), Lighting Design by Dans Sheehan (AlIce The Magnet; Hedda Gabler), and Sound Design by Brendan Connelly (Co-Founder, Obie Award-winning Theater of the Two-headed Calf). Performances begin Saturday, October 15th with Opening Night scheduled for October 30th at LAByrinth's new home, the Bank Street Theater (155 Bank Street) for a limited engagement through Sunday, November 13th.

The Atmosphere of Memory opens LAByrinth's 2011/12 Season and tells the story of playwright Jon Stone, who has recently found the courage to write his masterpiece: a play about his upbringing. But problems arise when his actual mother is cast to play his mother on stage and his estranged father remembers the family history differently. Jon is forced to rewrite not only his play, but his past as well. With twists hilarious and heartbreaking, playwright Katz (Philip Roth in Khartoum, Freak) turns Williams and O'Neill on their heads by imagining a world where the boundaries between life / art, and fact /fiction, are as blurry as The Atmosphere of Memory itself.

Following the successful Broadway engagement of the Tony-nominated Best Play, The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis, LAByrinth has found a new home for its 20th season, taking up residence at the newly rechristened, Bank Street Theater (155 Bank Street), a Greenwich Village landmark, formerly known as The Cherry Pit.

David Bar Katz (Playwright), a member of The LAByrinth Theater Company, wrote the play, The History of Invulnerability, about Jerry Siegel, the creator of Superman and the Man of Steel's Jewish roots, that recently premiered at The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park where it received the Acclaim Award for Outstanding Play of the Year, the Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Outstanding Premiere and the Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award Citation as one of the top three American plays of 2010. Mr. Katz co-wrote and directed the Broadway show, Freak, which was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. He received an Emmy Award nomination for the HBO production of "Freak." He co-created and was a head writer for Fox TV's, "House of Buggin'," the first all-Latino network television show. LAB has presented five of his plays in their annual Barn Series Festival and produced the PublicLAB production of his play Philip Roth in Khartoum at The Public Theater. In Fall 2011, Katz will direct Dan Klores's The Wood for Rattlestick Theater. Other select theater projects include Burning, Burning, Burning, Burning (Red Bull Theater's Obie Award winning "Revelation Readings" series, 2010), and What A Way To Go (New York Playwrights Lab, 2009). He is currently developing a film set in the gaming world with Will Wright (SimCity, Spore), and is creating A New Television series with CBS Television Studios and Denis Leary's Apostle for Showtime called "Sober Coach." His ‘tween' sci-fi novel Chronicles of The Chosen that will be published this Fall.

Pam MacKinnon (Director) is a Lily and Obie Award winning New York-based freelance director. Recent productions include Bruce Norris' Clybourne Park (Playwrights Horizons, upcoming Taper), Itamar Moses' Completeness (South Coast Rep and Playwrights Horizons), David Weiner's Extraordinary Chambers (Geffen), Rachel Axler's Smudge (Women's Project), Cusi Cram's A Lifetime Burning (Primary Stages), Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman (Old Globe), Gina Gionfriddo's Becky Shaw (South Coast). She is a frequent interpreter of the plays of Edward Albee, with world premieres of Peter and Jerry (Second Stage) and Occupant (Signature), as well as A Delicate Balance (ArenaStage) and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Steppenwolf and Arena, and upcoming Broadway) as recent credits. Other productions include world premieres of Itamar Moses' The Four of Us (MTC and Old Globe), Richard Greenberg's Our Mother's Brief Affair (South Coast), Jason Grote's Maria/Stuart (Woolly Mammoth), Erin Courtney's AlIce The Magnet (Clubbed Thumb), Itamar Moses' Bach at Leipzig (NYTW and Milwaukee Rep), and Sheri Wilner's Father Joy (SPF and CATF). She is an alumna of the Drama League and the Lincoln Center Directors' Lab and sits on the board of the downtown New York company Clubbed Thumb, Inc. dedicated to new American plays.

Dans Sheehan (Lighting Design) is originally from Australia and currently works as a lighting designer out of New York. Brendan Connelly (Sound Design) is co-founder and composer of the Obie-award winning theater company, The Two-headed Calf and has composed scores for all of its productions, including Drum of the Waves of Horikawa, Trifles, The Mother and Tumor Brainiowicz. His work has been heard at PS 122, Ontological-Hysteric, La MaMa, E.T.C., the HERE Arts Center, Soho Rep, Primary Stages and others. His recent work includes Du Fu, Mississippi, a performance of 8th century Chinese poetry through the lense of Appalachia; How To Build a Forest, an 8-hour performance/installation at The Kitchen, co-created by Lisa D'Amour and Katie Pearl; and La Jungla de Las Ciudades, a Spanish-language adaptation of Brecht, performed in Lima, Peru. He is a recipient of a few Meet-The-Composer grants, a few NYSCA commissions, and was a participant in the TCG/NEA Career Development Program in 2009-11.
