What happens when a composer and a lyricist have to write a song from a new musical (invented on the spot), in a style determined by the spin of the dreaded Genre Wheel . . . in 20 minutes? Brain-frying fun!
Brave musical theater composers and lyricists Kevin Ray, Arianna Rose, Dan Wolpow, Adam Spiegel, Andy Roninson, and Drew Fornarola will step up to the creative plate in the April 7 premiere of the exciting new songwriting competition TUNE IN TIME at Stage 72 (formerly The Triad) at 7pm. The finals will be on April 14 at 7pm.
TUNE IN TIME is hosted by club and cabaret überhost Emily McNamara (photo left, The Chocolate Show, NEWSical, Getting the Band Back Together). Acclaimed musical director Nate Buccieri (Brandy's, The Duplex, Don't Tell Mama) will tickle and pound the ivories. TUNE IN TIME also features improv comedy veterans Sheila Head and Jordan Houghton. The show will also feature different celebrity judges each week . . . and "fabulous" prizes. But the true stars of the evening will be the brains of the writers. Can they write a TUNE IN TIME?
TUNE IN TIME is produced by MAC Award-winning songwriter Amy Engelhardt (formerly of the Grammy-nominated vocal band, The Bobs) and Heather Shields, who is co-founder of While We Wait Productions. "Tune in Time will be a great combination of improvisation and instinct, but in this show it's the songwriters, not the actors who will dare to live at the lip of their creativity," says Engelhardt. "It's serious fun. You've got to trust your instincts and commit 300%. I can't wait to see what comes out of these minds!"
